LAUNDRY SAFETY PIN.
. Application filed June 22, 1927. Serial No. 200,549.
a safety pinof novel construction and ar.
. rangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of my improved safety pin.
Fig. 2 is a similar view illustratinga furc F ther development thereof.
, Fig. 3 is a similar view illustrating a still further development thereof.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view showing the hinged portion in open position.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary side elevational view illustrating a modification of my improved device.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary sect onal view taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is a similar sectional view taken on the line 77 of Fig. 5.
As here embodied my improved safety pin comprises a one piece member, formed or bent, as at 10 and 11 having curved extended and inwardly protruding portions, parallel in the same plane, so as to provide an intermediate opening of irregular contour, adapted to receive the clothes designated by the reference numeral 12 and obviously holding the clothes against longitudinal motion or slippage, overcoming the tendency in common pins of clothes slipping to one end or the other end. One extremity or end of my improved safety pin is formed or bent, as at 13, so as to form an oval shaped loop portion.- The other .extremity of my improved device is formed or bent inwardly, as at 14, preferably pointed and is adapted to removably engage in the clip, is secured to the curved extremity lo of my improved device, which is provided with an opening adapted to receive the side extremity 14.
In Fig. 2, I have shown my improved safety pin having a lesser number of extended and inwardly protruding portions 10 and 11. One extremity, or end is formed or bent, as at 17, so as to form a circular looped element. The opposite end, is looped as at 18 so as to removably receive the above menvtioned extremity 14: and secured to the ad- .jacent portion of the looped element as 19,
by winding thereto. 1
.InFigs. 3 and 4', Ihave shown my improved safety pin comprising two members, hinged, at oneextremity or end, asat 20, by a pin orthe like. The lug elements 21 and 22 are secured thereto, or integral therewith roximity to the pin 20, as a means of limlting the closing of -my improved device. Necessarily when the closing thereof is limited, and the device is forced closed against as at 30 and 31, circularly, and secured in the disc member 32, by the clip 33, which is secured as at 34, by a rivet, or the like, to the central portion of the said circular member.
The clip member 33 is provided with extended elements 35, 36, and 37, formed or,
bent, as at 38, and adapted to receive the circular portions of the said two separate members. The clip 33 is also provided with an extended portion 39, provided with an intermediate raised element 40, adapted to receive the circular portions of the said two separate members.
The above described construction is such as will permit my improved device to have the required free movement, and which will permit the said circular portions 30 and 31, to be increased or decreased, by changing ghe engagement thereof in the said clip mem- It should be understood that. my improved device is constructed preferably of sprin steel, so as to normally acquire its closed position. v 7
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Let-, {ers Patent of the United States, is as folows:
l. A safety pin of the class described, comprising a pair of members having curved, extended, and inwardly protruding portions, clamping means arranged at one of the ends of the members for clamping these members together, and means for normally urging these members apart upon releasing of the clamping means, said urging means being arranged on the ends of the members oppothis limiting action, a resultant force is pro- 1 site the clamping means, and the said curved extended and inwardly protruding portions interfitwith each other for holding clothes engaged by the pin against longitudinal slippage when the clamping means are engaged.
2. A safety pin of the class described, comprising a pair of Wavy members, clamping means arranged at one of the ends of the members for clamping these members together, and means for normally urging these members apart upon releasing of the clamping means, said urging means being arranged on the ends of the members opposite the clamping means, and the said wavy members interh't with each other for holding clothes engaged by the pin against longitudinal slippage when the clamping means are engaged.
3. A safety pin of the class described, comprising a pair of wavy members, clamping means arranged at one of the ends of the members for clamping these members together, the members being hingedly connected at the other ends, and lug elements integral with the members in proximity to the hinge connection, as a means of limiting the closing of the members, so that when the members are forced together they are being urged apart, and the said wavy members interlit with each other for holding clothes engaged by the pin against longitudinal slippage when the clamping means are engaged.
in testimony whereof I have atlixcd my signature.
