The garment hanger, according to my inven'-- tion, includes the two strips I and 2 preferably of i the same form and'outline" and at each end of the strip 2 is a metal pin 3 terminating in an eyed portion 4 and at each! end of the strip I is a pin 5 having an inturnedend portion 6 engaged in the eyes of the respective pins 3-and function after the manner of a hinge. It is to be noted thatby this arrangement of parts the pads Ia and 2a are under greater pressure at the lower edge than at the upper edge which is of materal' value in that the hinge point is below the lower edge of the strips I and 2 and when the strips are clamped together the pressure on the garment is greater at the lower edge than at the upper edge of the strips. The trousers therefore would have to pull through the smaller space before they could be dislodged by gravity or by strain applied as by pulling on the trousers. If the tension was greater at the upper edge of the strips than at the lower edge the garment could readily be pulled out as the pressure on the lower edge of the strips Ia and 2a would be less than the pressure at the upper edge. The strips I and 2 may be of any approved material but are preferably formed of wood and on the inner face of the strp I is a pad Ia adjacent each of its opposite ends and on the strip 2 is a pad 2a at each of its opposite ends. A hook I preferably formed of wire has a terminal end secured centrally between the ends of the strip I and a chain 8 has an eyed end link 9 through which the stem Ia of the hook element extends.

The chain 8 is formed of ball like portions I0 connected by Wire like portons Ma and a plate II is secured to the strip 2 as by means of the screws l2. The upper outturned edge I3 of the plate is formed with a notch I4 into which the wire portion Illw of the chain may be inserted and is of less width than the diameter of the balls. This arrangement permitsvariation in spacing of the bars I and 2 depending upon the thickness of'thematerial placed between the bars. The free end of the chain is provided with an eyed link I5 and a ball I6 has'a pin Il-provided with a looped end IB -engaging'in the eyeof the link I5 forming the terminal of the chain 8 which is a well known product.

It will; be evident from Fig. 4 that the bars I and 2- maybe varied in spacing as hereinbefore described. This arrangement permits adjustment in the spacing of the bars I. and Z to accommodate greater. or less thickness of material to be clamped between thebars.

While I have shown the pads Ia and 2a being. of short length and respectively located adjacent each of the-oppos'te ends of the bars I and 2 they may be of greater length extending; practically thefull length of the bars without departing from thespirit. and scope of theinventionherein disclosed;

Having thus briefly described my invention, its utility and mode of operation, what I claim. and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. A garment hanger comprising a pair of horizontal spaced strips, hinges depending from the lower longitudinal edges of said strips at opposite ends thereof, an upright inverted hook connected centrally to one of said strips, a plate secured centrally on the outer surface of the other strip and projecting above its top edge, and having a central notch in its projecting portion, and a chain including a series of spaced elements an chored to said one strip with intermediate elements thereof adapted for selective registry relative to said notch for clamping the strips together to hold a garment therebetween, said hinge arrangement defining an upright V -shaped opening between said strips and the joint of the hinge for increased tension between their lower edges.

2. A garment hanger comprising a pair of horizontal speed strips, hinges depending from the lower longitudinal edges of said strips at opposite ends thereof, an upright inverted hook connected centrally to one of said strips, a plate secured centrally on the outer surface of the other strip and projecting above its top edge, and having a central notch in its projecting portion, and a chain including a series of spaced elements anchored to said one strip with intermediate elements thereof adapted for selective registry relative to said notch for clamping the strips together to hold a garment therebetween, said hinge arrangement defining an upright V-shaped opening between said strips and the joint of the hinge for increased tension between their lower edges, each hinge comprising pins depending from adjacent ends of each strip, and means pivotally joining the lower ends of said pins.

A garment hanger comprising a pair of horizontal spaced strips, hinges depending from the lower longitudinal edges of said strips at opposite ends thereof, an upright inverted hook connected centrally to one of said strips, a plate secured centrally on the outer surface of the other strip and projecting above its top edge, and having a central notch in its projecting portion, and a chain including a series of spaced elements anchored to said one strip with intermediate elements thereof adapted for selective registry relative to said notch for clamping the strips together to hold a garment therebetween, said hinge arrangement defining an upright V- shaped opening between said strips and the joint of the hinge for increased tension between their lower edges, each hinge comprising a pin depending from opposite ends of one strip having an eye at their lower ends, and a second pin depending from adjacent ends of the other strip having inturned portions at their lower ends pivotally projected and retainingly engaged within said eyes.

A garment hanger comprising a pair of horizontal spaced strips, hinges depending from the lower longitudinal edges of said strips at opposite ends thereof, an upright inverted hook connected centrally to one of said strips, a plate secured centrally on the outer surface of the other strip and projecting above its top edge, and having a central notch in its projecting portion, and a chain including a series of spaced elements anchored to the lower end of said hook with intermediate elements thereof adapted for selective registry relative to said notch for clamping the strips together to hold a garment therebetween, said hinge arrangement defining an upright V- shaped opening between said strips and the joint of the hinge for increased tension between their lower edges.

A garment hanger comprising a pair of horizontal spaced strips, hinges depending from the lower longitudinal edges of said strips at opposite ends thereof, an upright inverted hook connected centrally to one of said strips, a plate secured centrally on the outer surface of the other strip and projecting above its top edge, and having a central notch in its projecting portion, a chain including a series of spaced elements anchored to said one strip with intermediate elements thereof adapted for selective registry relative to said notch for clamping the strips together to hold a garment therebetween, said hinge arrangement defining an upright V-shaped opening between said strips and the joint of the hinge for increased tension between their lower edges, and pads upon the inner opposed faces of each of said strips adjacent their outer ends.

6. A garment hanger comprising a pair of horizontally arranged spaced strips hingedly connected at their ends along their lower longitudinal edges, a hook centrally connected to one of said strips, a plate secured centrally upon the outer surface of the other strip and projecting above its top edge and having a central notch in its projecting portion. and a chain anchored to the lower end of said hook with intermediate portions thereof selectively positioned and secured within said notch.
