Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIGEq `GEORGE ARMSTRONG, OF ELMIRA, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN HUSKlNG-PINS.
i Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,078, dated September 28, 1875; application iiled July 23,1875. v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE ARMSTRONG,
' of Elmira, in the county of Stark and State of Illinois, have invented certain Improvements in Husking-Pins, of which the followsents the improved husking-pin. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the heel of the same, and
Fig. 3 is a similar view of a modication of the saine part.
Like letters of reference made use of in the several figures indicate like parts wherever used.
In the said drawing, A represents the husking-pin. B is the loop-strap attached to the pin by being roven through holes c.` Gis a nut 0r screw ferrule, which is'passed upon the heel of the pin over the thread z', cut thereon for that purpose. Matters are so arranged that this ferrule or nut G can beset home far enough, so that its front edges will come into bearing-contact with the loop-strap where the strap passes through the hindmost hole c. By setting home this nut O the strap is securely fastened at any size of loop which may have ,been previously given it. By this simple contrivance I not only obviate the necessity of cutting the strap full of holes, as in the case of husking-pins, wherea button adjustment is made use oi, and which, of course, weakens it, but alsovaft'ord a much closer and nicer adjustment, ranging over any length of strap, and., indeed, quite independent of the strap itself in so far as any special' conti guration of that article is concerned.
The modification shown at Fig. 3 of the drawing consists in substituting for the eXtemodiication is within the scope of my inven tion in its broader relation.
My improved husking-pin may be adjusted to a size of loop suitable for the gloved hand,
for the naked hand, or for the insertion of any number of lingers, and the nicety of adjust- Y ment allows of a perfect iit in each case. The rapidity with which the adjustment may be effected to any required degree is of great iinportance, because the loop in practical use is very apt to become stretched, and is always more or less affected by .the Weather.
The bushing-pin which l have illustrated in the drawing' shows the body of the pin per forated with three holes, but the strap will be held suiciently if only two holes are employed. The object of having the middle hole is to give the user a better chance for adjusting the strap, to suit the number of iingers employed or passed through the loop.
The point of the pin may be shaped in any form desired, round, as shown in the drawing, or dat, straight or hooked, or otherwise. The shape of the point in fact formsno essential part of the invention, which may be applied to pins of any shape preferred.
Having described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, With the husking-pin and loopstrap, of a screw device at the -heel for holding the strap by pressure of the screw against it, substantially as speciiied.
2. The combination, with the pin A and loop-strap B, of the screw-ferrule or nut C, substantially as specified.
GEORGE ARMSTRONG.
Witnesses:
EDWARD A. BURGE, ROBE-H. MILLER.
