This invention relates to swimming appa- Aratus and more particularly toa glove intended to be worn while swimming and facilitate progress through the water.

@ne object of the invention is to provide a glove which may be worn in the usual manner and includes webs extending between the lingers so that when swimming the Engers may be spread and thereby provide a` larger surface to act upon the water and permit a person to swim with greater ease and rapidity.

Another object of the invention is to provide the thumb and ngers of the glove with openings bordered by outstanding compresvsible ribs so that when a ladder, ioat or the like is grasped a suction 'may take place which will prevent the swimmer from losing his grip with resulting danger of slipping and possibly injuring himself.

The improved glove includes a body 1 whichmay be formed of silk or any light water-proof fabric but is preferably formed of rubber and carries the usual Enger stalls 2 and thumb stall 3. formed of the same material as the body. The palm of the glove is provided with an enlarged opening 4 and at itsl rear the body carries straps 6 and 7 which are preferably formed integral therewith and intended to be releasably connected by a buckle 8. The buckle is preferably of the friction type so that the strap 6 may be drawn through it to retain the glove in lace upon the hand. Each of the stalls is ormed with an opening 9 adjacent its outer end and the finger stalls are provided with other openings 10 intermediate the openings 9 and their inner ends. From an inspection of Fig. 2, it will be seen thatthe openings in the stalls are so located that when the glove is worn the fingers and thumb may close the inner ends of these openings when Yadapted to Atit a thumb 'and finger stalls, the palm portion o `the glove being open and said stalls having a ladder rung or other object is grasped. It should also be noted that there has been provided ribs l1 which extend about the outer ends of the openings. These bordering rlbs are formed of soft rubber which is easilyrompressible so that when a ladder rung 1s grasped the pressure` applied will create a vacuum in the openings and thereby prevent danger of slipping. When the hand 1s released, the fingers readily move away from the inner ends of the openings thereby breaking the vacuum. It will, therefore, be seen that a very firm grip can be obtained upon a ladder or other object but that easy release of the object grasped will not be interfered with. Webs 12 which are also formed of rubber extend between the stalls and may be formed integral therewith 'or separate from the stalls and suitably secured thereto in any desired manner. These webs are of such dimensions that the fingers and thumb may be spread as far as'desired when swimming and when the lingers and thumb are so spread the webs will provide additional surfaces to act against the water. It will thus be seen that a glove provided with these webs will permit a person to swim very easily and at an increased rate of speed.

Having thus described the invention, I claim:

1. A swimming glove comprising a body adapted to t about the hand and having thumb and finger stalls provided with openings to be closed at their inner ends by portions of the thumb and lingers of the wearer, sealing members of soft material encircling the outer ends of the openings and projecting from the outer surfaces of the stalls, and webs extending between said stalls.

2. A swimming glove comprising a body adapted to lit about the hand and having thumb and finger stalls provided with openingsto be closed at their inner ends by por tions of the thumb and ngers of the wearer, sealing ribs of soft elastic material encircling the outer ends of the openings and projecting from the outer surfaces of the stalls, and webs joining said stalls.

A swimmin glove comprising a body out the hand and havin openings intermediate their ends and adjacent their outer ends, .sealing ribs of soft rubber projecting from the outer surfaces of the stalls in encircling relation to the openings, and webs joiningsaid stalls.

4. A swimming glove comprising a body adapted to t about the hand and. having thumb and finger stells provided with openrf/ees@ ingsto be closed at their inner ends by portions of the thumb and ingeis of the wearer, and sealing ribs of soft rubber projecting from the outer surfaces of the stalls in encircling relzttion to the openings.
