GLOVE Filed Aug. 14, 1934 @SLEEP bin INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Dee. 24, 193s UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GLOVE Antonio Pagan, Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico Application August 14, 1934, Serial No. 739,779
1 claim. (ci. z-isi) This invention relates to a glove especially adapted for persons engaged in cutting sugar cane and the like, and has for the primary object the provisionl of a device of the above stated 5 character which will protect the operators hand used for holding the cane or growth while cutting the latter with a knife manipulated by the other hand against accidental cutting or from insect bites or any other injury the non-cutting hand may be subjected to.
with these and other objects in view this irl- Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the linel 3 3 of Figure 1. l
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral i indicates in entirety a protective glove including a. hand portion 2, ngers and thumb portions 3 and l and a wristhor gauntlet portion 5. The glove l is constructed of any material suitable for the purpose which will be durable and provide maximum protection to the'hand of the user and still be readily 'ilexible to permit a person to have free use of the hand. It is preferable that the gauntlet portion i be constructed of a material capable of affording maximum protection so that the wrist of the person will be eectively protected.
A covering 6 is provided for the glove I and is shaped in accordance with the hand and linger and thumb portions of the glove and is secured to the glove along its edges by stitching or any other well known means to form on the back of 6 the glove a. compartment overlying the back of a person's hand, ngers and thumband has located therein a protecting plate I preferably constructed from some suitable flexible metal. The plate l overlies the major portion of the back of 10 the hand of the user when the glove is positioned upon the hand. Secured to edges of the plate is a plurality of ilexible elements 8 which extend into the finger and thumb portions of the compartment to provide protection for the back of l5 the fingers and thumb. The flexible elements I may be of any desired character and preferably in the form of chains yas suggested in Figure-l.
The front or palm portion 'of the glove is slotted which also extends through the gauntlet 20 portion 5 and is closedby a slidable fastener 9 to permit the easy and quick application and removal of the glove from the hand and when applied to the hand with the slide catch 9 closed 'the glove will be caused to snugly fit the hand. 25
Having described the invention, I claim:
In combination with a glove having finger, thumb, hand and Wrist portions, a covering shaped to conform to the hand, thumb and finger portion and having its edges secured to the glove $0 to cooperate with the latter in forming a compartment, a protective plate positioned in the compartment to overlie the back of the hand portion of the glove, and flexible reinforcing elements secured to the plate and extending to over- 35 lie the ilnger and thumb portions.
