MECHANICAL CLDWN TOY.
Application filed June 21,
lhis invention relates to improvements in mechanical clown toys and has for one of i s objects the provision of such a toy 01 o pic and inexpensive construction and one 1' that will amuse children.
'inother object of the invention is to pro vide a toy at this nature having a drum rotatably supported on a stand or the like, the said drum having swingingly supported th efrom a figure oi? a clown adapted to pe term various acrobatic stunts when the drum is revolved.
@ther objects and. novel features oi": conitru tion oi? my invention will become apas the specification proceeds. the drawings forming a part of this .7 fication, it have shown a preferred form or my invention in which Figure l is an end view in elevation of my improved toy with one of the end cloremoved and a portion of the motor .nsr brolten away.
Figure n is a sectional view taken on line 2 2, llig. 1 and as Figure 3 is a tragmental plan view showing how the toy figure is mounted on the drum.
"fer-ring to the drawings in detail 5 ines a hollow drui'n preferably made of an sheet metal to the rear end wall 6 of w nch there is suitably secured as by solderstance, a motor casing 7, in which mounted a motor mechanism 8 a winding hey shaft 9 rotatably .ia the end walls 10 and 11. of the '2', a ratchet 12 secured to the sh 9, a power spring 13 anchored at one i to the said ratchet 12 and at its opposite drive gear 14 loosely mounted on t 9, a pinion 15 in mesh with 1d and secured to a gear 16 -ed on a horizontal shaft or of a supporting stand 18 upon drum 6 and. the motor casing 'i' y supported. lhe gear 16 meshes 'on 20 secured by a hub 21 to k last on a shaft 23 rotatably journaled in the motor casing 7 and the said gear 22 meshes with a pinion 24 secured to a governor shaft 25 rotatably mounted in the casing and having a governor disk 26 mounted thereon to regulate the speed of the motor.
llhe drum 5 is provided with a pair of cars 2? through which passes a suspension ,um ii'is mounted. meter easi q a r 22 1927- Serial No. 200,317.
wire 28 loosely supporting the hands or arms 29 of a toy clown figure 80. The said arms 29 are'loosely mounted ona split pin 31 passing through the body 32 or the figure and the arms 29. A washer 33 on each side of the body 82 space the arms from the body. Legs 34 are similarly supported on the body by a pin 35. A counterweight 36 secured to the inside of the drum 5 tends to maintain the toy in proper equilibrium when revolved.
The action of the toy is as follows: When the spring 13 is wound up it will rotate the gear 14: which will in turn revolve around the pinion. 15 and gear 16 on the shaft 17 and cause the drum and motor mechanism to rotate on the said shaft in the direction of the arrow (Fig. 1) and carry the figure with the said drum and cause it to perform various acrobatic stunts as for instance a somersault as indicated in dot and dash lines. The gears 16 and 22, and the pinions 20 and 241. actuate the governor 26.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a toy of simple and eificient construction and one that will amuse and give pleasure to children.
tVhile l have shown a preferred form of my invention, I desire it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction shown as many variations and changes may be had without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a toy oi": the nature described, a support, a drum rotatably mounted thereon, a motor in the drum for rotating same about the support, and a jointed figure swingingly suspended from the drum adapted to perform acrobatic stunts substantially as described when the drum is rotated.
2. In a toy of the nature described, a support, a drum rotatably mounted thereon, a casing secured to the drum and rotatably mount-ed on the support, a motor mechanism in the casing to rotate the drum about the support and a jointed figure suspended from the drum to rotate therewith and perform acrobatic stunts when rotated.
3. In a toy of the nature described, a sup port, a drum rotatably mounted thereon, a casing secured to the drum and rotatably mounted on the support, a motor mechanism in the casing; t0 rotate the drum abaut the support, u figure sugport on the drum and toy figtue having arms and legs pivota lly secured to the body portion thereof and loascly suspended by ths arms from the said support to rotate with tbs drum and perform acrobatic stunts when rotated.
4. A toy comprising a support, composed of a rod formed into a base part, an upright past and a hol'izantal shaft part; a drum hztft part and #31! tcaiiphuiy; atod hgxulro imos to 1 and M 11ml :1 spring [mi Qu nn-ting rota
