Description

1,676,683 E. BRUNHOFF HUMIDOR DISPLAY LID July 10, 1928.
Filed Jan. 29, 1927 Patented July 10, 1928.
U ED STA EDWARD BRUNHOFF, or WYOMING, oHro,
HUMIDOR DISPLAY LID.
Application filed January 29, 1927. SerialNo. 1 6 41624.
, midor detachably mounted with reference to said lid and chamber. My invention also comprises certain details of form and arrangement and combination of components, all of which will be fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a container with my improved display lid and humidor attached thereto.
Figure 2 is an inside plan of the lid and humidor detached.
Figure 8 is a sectional detail taken on line 33 of Fig. 1.
Figure 4 is a side elevation of one type of humidor detached from its chamber.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the preferred embodiment of my invention in which 15 represents a container, a cigar box.
for instance from which the articles are to be vended, 16 represents a panel, preferably transparent, through which the contents of the container may be observed Without lifting the lid, and 17 a metal frame fitted to the top or open mouth of the container and supporting said panel in place With reference to the container. The frame 17 is preferably detachably attached as for instance by means of the channel members 18 and 19 to the lid 20 of the container in such manner that the hinge 21, which serves to connect the lid 20 to the container, also serves as a hinge upon which the frame 17 and panel 16 swing or pivot with reference to the container when it is desired to lift the display lid to give access to the interior of the container.
One side or edge of the frame 17 is channeled or curved to form a humidor chamber.
24, which chamber when the display lid is closed is in communication downwardly with the interior of the container. A humidor preferably comprising a tubular member 25 of perforated metal having a Wick or core 26 of fibrous asbestos or similar material adapted when dipped in Water to absorb av quantity of water and to later give off water vapor to'saturate or. partially saturate the atmosphere within the container 15, and maintain the cigars, candy, or
other contents of the container in a suitable 1,676,683 VENT ferriescondition for sale and use, thatis in a con I dition in which it is not too extensively deprived of moisture. One end of the humidor chamberis perforated at 28 and provided with an inwardly extendingtubular section 29 which serves to supportithe hu-,
midor substantially in acentral or axial .position with reference to the humidorchamher. A flange 27 at the end of the humidor makes a close oint withthe opening through which the humidor is introduced into the humidor chamber, and a knob or handle 30 exteriorly of the humidor chamber enables the humidor to be removed from time to time and dipped in water and then replaced in the humidor chamber. The position of the humidor chamber and humidor with reference to the interior of and contents of the container is elevated above the container so that moisture ladened air, being heavier than dry air, tends to gravitate and flow replaced in the humidor chamber by dryer air from the interior of the container, thereby causing an automatic circulation of air from the interior of the container to and from the humidor chamber. If desired two humidors may be separately introduced from opposite ends into the humidor chamber, also the humidor may be differently supported within and in reference to the humidor chamber. Containers employing my inproved display lid and humidor may be exposed for sale on top of counters and show cases without detriment to the contents of the containers.
The apparatus herein shown and described is capable of considerable modification within the scope of the claims without into the interior of the container and to be and the inner face of the wall of said; humidor chamber to enable the atmosphere oi" the container to travel a circuitous path from' ally of said humidor chamber and with an" intervening air circulating" channel between the exterior of said humrdor and the inner face of the Wall of said humrdor chamber to provide for an air circulation from said container to said humi-dor' chamber and encircling said humldor therein and thence back to said container, and means to detach said humidor from said humidor chamber through a peri'orati'on in one end of said humidor chamber and operating from the exterior of said chamber.
3 A humidor' display lid comprising a lid member tobe detachably applied to the open mouth. of a container to ,rotect the contents of the container and to display the contents of the container through said lid, means to detachably" attach said lid to the original container lid so as to utilize the hinge connection of the original container lid also as a hinge connection between the container and the display lid, a humidor chamber carried by said display lid and in communication with the interior ofsaidl container, and
a humidor mounted in said Humidor-chamber and axially thereof with an intervening air circulating channel between the exterior: of said humidbr and the inner facev of the wall of said humidor chamber to provide for an air circulation upwardly from said container to said humidor chamber and. encircling said. humidor and thence back and downwardly to said container, and means to detachably and replaceably support said humidor sub* stantially axially of said humidor chamber and operable from the eirterior of said humildor chamber.
in testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
EDWARD BRUNHOFR.
