TOBACCO CONDITIONER ASSEMBLY Filed Sept. 26, 1950 INVENTOR w 0 m U a l o o o o o JJ Patented Apr. 21, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TOBACCO CONDITIONER ASSEMBLY Henry J. Erb, Jr., Johnstown, Pa.
Application September 26, 1950, Serial No. 186,834
1 Claim. 1
The present invention relates generally to tobacco pouches and more particularly to tobacco pouches having a moistening and/or flavoring agent for the tobacco contained therein.
Tobacco pouches have for a long time been provided with an agent for moistening and/or flavoring the tobacco, but one shortcoming prevalent among these pouches which has detracted from their usefulness has been the necessity of removing the agent from the pouch when the tobacco is sufficiently moistened and/or flavored. As a consequence, the agent must be carried apart from the pouch when not in use, with the result that the agent is very often not handy when needed.
It is therefore the principal object of the present invention to provide a tobacco pouch with a chamber for storing a moistening and/or flavoring agent which chamber forms an integral part of the pouch but which is separated from the tobacco. Thus the agent will remain at all times within the pouch but exposed to the tobacco only at the discretion of the user.
Other objects of the invention will be evident from the following detailed description read in connection with the appended drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the pouch of the present invention, a part being broken away to disclose details of structure.
Figure 2 is an end elevational view of the same, a part being broken away to disclose details of structure.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional-elevational view, taken along the line 3-3 of Figure 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view similar to Figure 3 showing the moistening or flavoring agent in stored position.
Referring now in greater detail to the drawing, it will be seen that the device of the present invention comprises an outer pouch 5, in which is suspended an inner pouch 6 for holding tobacco. The pouch assembly is equipped with a zipper closure 1 which operates along the top and one end of outer pouch 5.
As shown to advantage in Figure 3, one end wall of inner pouch 6 is apertured and threaded as indicated at 8 to admit into inner pouch 6 a moistening and/or flavoring agent 9 which is contained in a perforated tube ID or any other suitable receptacle. One end of tube I is normally closed by a cap screw II which engages the threaded internal wall of tube l0. Cap screw II is removed to insert the moistening and/or flavoring agent into the tube. At the opposite end thereof tube ID has its peripheral wall extended beyond end wall l2 to provide a socket frictionally receiving the threadless reduced extension H of a manipulating and anchoring plug l4 which threadedly engages aperture 8 to hold tube In in position of use (see Figure 3). Manipulating and anchoring plug l4 also serves to facilitate insertion and removal of the tube 10 without need of touching the tobacco.
When the tobacco is sufficiently moistened and/or flavored, plug H is unscrewed and manipulated to remove tube It). Tube I0 is then separated from plug 14 and placed in a storage chamber 15 formed between the bottom walls of outer pouch 5 and inner pouch 6. This space is made possible by the difference in depth of the inner and outer pouches. Plug I4 is replaced in threaded aperture 8 to prevent leakage of tobacco from the pouch (see Figure 4).
In use, plug I4 and storage chamber I5 are normally hidden from view by zipper closure 1. Opening of the zipper permits ready access to the plug I4 and tube In for storing or positioning for use the contents of tube l0.
Although I have herein shown a preferred form of the invention, I am nevertheless aware that various changes may be made therein within the scope of the claim hereto appended.
What I claim is:
A tobacco receptacle comprising an outer pouch, an inner pouch of substantially the same shape as the outer pouch but dimensioned to fit within the same and having its bottom spaced above the bottom of the outer pouch, the inner pouch having an aperture at one corner adjacent its bottom, a closure for said aperture, and a treating agent carrying receptacle cross-sectionally dimensioned to be passed through the aperture, the closure having means for removably connecting it with the receptacle, whereby the latter may be selectively placed within the inner pouch or within the space between the inner and outer pouches, the aperture being internally threaded and the closure member consisting of an exteriorly threaded plug with a pilot member insertable in the end of the receptacle to frictionally retain the latter.
