This invention relates to new and useful improvements in containers adapted to hold cigarette papers conveniently on conventional tobacco receptacles and in a manner so that the cigarette papers are readily accessible.

An object of this invention is to provide a single piece construction for retaining cigarette papers in a convenient manner.

Another object of this invention is to provide improved clamping means adapted to embrace a conventional tobacco can.

Another object of this invention is to provide a resilient paper retaining means in the said construction.

A further object of this invention is to provide guide means for preventing side slip of the cigarette papers.

A still further object of this invention is to provide clamping means adapted to be secured within and without of said tobacco can.

Another object of this invention is to provide an extremely simple device of the character described which is efiicient and lends itself well to commercial manufacture.

Ancillary objects and features of novelty reside in the combination of elements subsequently set forth herein and illustrated in the accompanyin drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention, showing the preferred embodiment secured to a conventional tobacco can;

Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view of the invention disclosed in Figure 1 and taken substantially on the line 2-2 thereof and in the direction of the arrows;

Figure 3 is a longitudinal fragmentary side view of the invention disclosed in Figure 1, taken substantially on the line 3-3 thereof and in the direction of the arrows;

Figure 4 is a side elevational view of the invention disclosed in Figure l; and

Figure 5 is a plan view of the preferred embodiment shown in Figures 1 and 4.

This invention appertains to improvements in smokers articles, providing a device for carrying cigarette papers conveniently and accessibly on a tobacco can. Further, this invention contemplates the provision of providing protection from body moisture, keeping tobacco papers substantially covered.

Taking now Figure 1, a conventional tobacco can It] having a lid I2 is disclosed and the invention generally indicated at l 4 is secured thereon. A back plate or body member i6 is substantially rectangular in configuration and is provided with a pair of oppositely disposed clamping means l8 and 20 respectively. The said clamping means I8 and 20 are contoured to be complemental to the rounded edges of a conventional tobacco can.

A continuation of the said back plate is provided at 22. It is apparent from an inspection of the drawings that the said member 22 is doubled back on said back plate and is adapted to form a clip for retaining cigarette papers thereunder. Due to the inherent resiliency of the metallic material of construction, the clip 22 will be somewhat resilient.

A pair of elongated protuberances '24 and 26 respectively are provided adjacent the said clip 22 and are adapted to be used as retaining means preventing objectionable endwise movement of the papers retained under said clip 22. The elongated protuberances 24 and 26 also provide confines for the papers as does the bight 28 in the said clip 22.

Integral with the said back plate is a tab 30 having an arcuate terminal portion 32 thereon. It is noted that the said tab 30 is contoured to fit flatly against the forward and rearward base of the front portion of a conventional tobacco can. It is apparent that the said tab 30 is received interior of said can and prevents sliding of the attachment l4 longitudinally of said can. It is further apparent that the retaining means "3 and 20 prevent transverse movement of the invention relative to said can Ill.

Due to the extreme simplicity characterizing this invention, a further description thereof is deemed unnecessary. However, it is understood that various changes as to size and shape may be made herein without departing from the spirit of the invention. Accordingly, limitation is sought only in accordance with the scope of the following claims.

Having thus described this invention what I claim as novel and improved is:

1. A cigarette paper holder for attachment to tobacco cans comprising a back plate, clamping means secured thereto, resilient paper retaining means on said plate, guide means on said plate and a clip on said back plate adapted to be received partially within a tobacco can, said clip having a raised portion for fitting snugly over the raised portion adjacent the top of a tobacco can, said clampin means including oppositely disposed arms integral with said plate and contoured to clamp a can snugly, said resilient retaining means including an extension of said back plate doubled back thereon, said guide means comprising elongated parallel protuberances adapted to receive tobacco papers therebetween, said clip formed integral with said back plate and contoured to face the inner and outer surface of a tobacco can front member.

A cigarette paper holder for use with a tobacco can comprising a back plate having clips projecting from opposite edges thereof to engage the sides and frgnt qf ,a tobacco (can, lpllgitudinal protuber oes integral with said :back plate, forming an open pocket, an extension integral with said back plate folded on itself to retain ciga: rette papers between the protuberances, a curved terminal on said extension, a clip axially aligned with said extension, said clip haying a bl ght v15 4 therein to cover and fit snugly over the raised portion adjacent the top of a tobacco can.
