' oLo'rHEstmn 30mm 7 I Application filed August 18,1927. Serial No. 213.886. 7
matic clamping member of which'is mounted for sliding movement in the housing forming a part of the clamp,.s'aid member 10 being equipped with means to take the wear of the sliding movement without danger of shearing of any of the parts durlng such movement such as is liable to occur in the v7 bar has a plurality of teeth 21 arranged in spaced relation with the top of the housing patented structure. Another object is to so construct the clamping member of the holder that a reliable guide Will be formed for the rope without necessitating curving of the-teeth of the clamp. 7
In carrying out these objects, the invention is susceptible of modification without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the claimed invention; there being shown in the drawings for illus- 25 trative' purposes the preferred and practical form, in which: i I I Figure 1 represents aside elevation of a clothes line securedin position-bythis improved holder;
' Fig. 2 1s a side elevation of the clamp detached;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view taken from the side opposite to that from whichFig. 2 is taken; and
Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken on the line 4c4t of Fig. 2.
In the embodiment illustrated a post P i is shown and a fixed structure in the form of a wall V between which the rope R is stretched and to whichiit is secured. One end of the rope is fixed tothe post P and the other end is clamped to the wall W by the holder 10 constituting this invention.
The holder 10 includes a housingfsim'ilar to that shown in the patent above referred to and which has attaching flangesll and 121at through which theirivets pass. -This plate has a trough'or groove 18 extending'longie tudinally thereof and'which'fits in the Slot 13 bearing against the adjacent face of the no 'bar 15 and which operates to take the wear from the side walls of the slot and thereby prevent shearing oil of the rivets.
The short arm 19 of the bar has a groove 20 extending around its outer edge and 66 curved as shown in Fig. 2 to form a guide .for the rope'R in its passage around the clamp. 7
The outer edge of the long armof the between which and said teeth the rope is designed to be clamped. I In the use of this holder the rope 'R is secured at one end to the post P and the other end is inserted in the holder being passed around the grooved end of the bar and threaded between the teeth 21 and the top of the housing.- A pull on the rope when the clothes are hung thereon will tend so to pullthe'sliding clamp'1-5 outwardly and cause the teeth 21 to bite into the rope dur ing'its compression between the inner face of the housing top and the teeth.
It will thus be seen that the grooved portion of the wear plate in its movement in the slot 13 will relieve the rivets from all wear and thus greatly prolong the life of the holder, and'the use of straight teeth instead I of curved ones as shown in the patent will also cheapen the construction of the holder while producing the same Y result.
Without further description it is thought that the features and advantages of the in-' vention will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and it will of course be understood that changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of the invention or its scope as claimed. f
I claim l t I r 1. A. device ofthe class described com-" prising a housing having a top and a side wall with a slot in said side wall at anangle to, the horizontal, a clamping member mounted to slide in said housing and adapted to cooperate with a wall of the, housing to clamp a rope between them, and, a combined wear plate and guide mounted in said slot and carried by said member. 2. A device of the class described com- 7 Ill prising a housing having a top and a side A device of the class described comprising a housing having a top and a side wall with a slot in said side wall at an angle to the horizontal, a clamping member mounted to slide in said housing and adapted to cooperate with a wall of the housing to clamp a rope between them, one end of said clamp being grooved to receive a rope and its upper edge having transversely straight-teeth to facilitate gripping of a rope thereby. v
