DOUBLE BULL HOOK.

Application filed March 9, 1928.

This invention relates to double bull hooks.

An object of the invention is the provision of a device for readily connecting the ends of a plurality of ropes to a hook and in such a manner that the ends will be firmly held against disengagement from the hook during variations of the pull on the ropes.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a bull hitch. having a plurality of restricted openings in one end for the reception of ropes and including means permitting the insertion of the ends of the ropes equipped with ferrules to retain the ends in the hitch, means being also included in the device for guiding the ends into seating rela-' tion with sockets.

This invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed de scription in connection with the accompanying drawings; nevertheless, it is to be understood thatthe invention is not confined to the disclosure being susceptible of such changes and modifications as shall define no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a bullhook constructed according to the principles of my invention, I

Figure 2 is a vertical section of the hook shown in Fig. 1,

Figure 8 is a transverse section taken along the line 38 of Fig. 2,

Figure 4 is a horizontal section along the line 1- 1; of Fig. 1, I

Figure 5 is a horizontal section along the line 55 of Fig. 1.

Referring more particularly to the drawings 10 designates a metal housing which is flattened thereby providing a pair of side walls 11 and 12. An eye 13 projects from the upper end of the housing to receive a hook 14. This hook is adapted to be connected with some form of elevating means which is well known in the art. v

The side wall 11 has an inspection opening 15 while the other wall 12 has a key slot including an elongated slot 16 and an enlarged circular opening 17. The lower end of the slot 16 opens through the bottom or lower end of the housing 10.

The inner end of the housing has a passage 18 which extends across the said portion and which includes a pair of openings 19 and 20 for the reception of the ends of the ropes re- Serial No. 260,418.

spectively, 21 and 22. Above the openings 19 and 20, sockets 23 and 24 are formed to re ceive the ferrules 25 which are secured to the inner ends of the ropes for maintaining the ends of the ropes within the housing 10 and for maintaining the ends of the ropes removably connected to the bull hook. It will be noted that the wall 11 of the housing, as shown at 30 is pressed inwardly of the housing and forms a partial partition between the two sockets. Furthermore, the front walls adjacent the passages 19 and 20 extend inwardly, as shown at 31, for aiding in forming a seat for the ferrules 25.

A plate or partition 10 extends downwardly from the top 41 of the housing and is located in a plane which passes through the axis of the housing and which is located midway between the sockets 23 and 24. This partition acts as a guide for aiding in properly positioning the ferrules 25'within the sockets of the housing.

lVhen it is desired to insert the ends of the ropes provided with the ferrules 25, the ferrule is inserted through the large opening 17 and the rope is inserted through the slot 16. The ferrule is then forced to one side of the housing and is moved upwardly so that it'will be guided into one corner at the upper end of the housing whereby when the housing is shifted relative to the rope, the ferrule 25 will move into a socket.

I claim 1. A bull hook comprising a housing having openings in one end thereof to receive a portion of rope adjacent ferruled ends of said rope, and a slot in a side wall for the insertion of said ferruled ends to the interior of the housing, said housing being provided with sockets adjacent the opening to seat the forruled ends, a plate projecting from the opposite end of the housing for guiding the ten ruled. ends of the rope towards the sockets.

2. A bull hook comprising a housing having openings in one end thereof to receive a portion of rope provided with ferruled ends, and a slot in a side wall for the insertion of said ferruled ends to the interior of the housing, said housing being provided with sockets adjacent the openings to seat the ferruled ends, a plate projecting from the opposite end of and disposed interiorly of the housing for aiding in directing the ferruled ends of the rope into the sockets.
