suggestion ofd'eath,f.when a lcorpse 1s rest? ing on the embalming board prior to placement in a. burial casket. p
A further object of the invention is vto provide a combination bed and embalming board as specified, in which the bed frame is Set up or assembled about a'regulation einbalming board ina manner adapted to formr a bed surface of normal width, and wherein the top surface of the-embalming boardis flush therewith and the side edges of the l embalming boardin abut-mentwith the inner parallel edges ofthe bed frame.
v With these and other object-sf in View, the invention vconsists in the novel arrangement and features of construction hereinafter described and specifically defined in the claims hereunto appended. A Reference being had to the accompanying sheet of drawing forming a rpart, of the specification, and wherein:
Figure 1y is a top plan viewofthe assembled bed frame, with a regulation embalming board positioned therein as indicated in dotted lines. f
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the bed frame, illustrating` an embalming board as surrounded thereby.
Figure 3 is a cross sectionalview through the assembled bed frame and embalming board, on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Referring more particularlyo the drawu ing, the invention consists of a foldablebed frame generally indicated at 10, which comprises two end :sect-ions, the head piece 11 i and the foot piece 12.
- In order tojconnectthe end sections 11,
and 12, a pair of'parallel side members 13,`r are attached thereto, with the Yends 14, thereof suitably provided with a button headed plate 15, with the button heads 16, projecting therefrom, adapted to be inserted in suitableslots 17, therefor-which are formed in an angle plate 18, secured to each endpost Y known manner. y K .K
The parallelside members 13,',each com-- prising two sections 20, and. 21, of `equal length, have their inner ends joined *byE means of a hinge plate 22, morti-sed in andv securedto the low'erwouter edgefsurface of? the sections 20,v andl 21, as clearly shown inA Figure 2. i v n. l Y
The parallel side member forming sections 2()` and 21, are each fur-ther" providedy with 1.9, of the end sections 11, and 12 inthe well 'l ahingedly connected rectangular section 23,`
adapted toy normally extendfrinwardly Aand rest on the upper surface of the sections 20, and 21, with ltheir outer edges flush with( said sections and disposed in a horizontal plane with the ysupporting .surface of an embalmingl board, to form, a relatively narrow and divided supporting ledge on; each side of saidy bed frame `for normally abut-. ting the .major length side edges lof an em-VV balming board as indicated atL A, and as clearly shown in Figure 3, of the drawing. Y
A pair of screw plates 24.-, `having a shortA stud 25, projecting at right angles from one side thereof, are adapted to be secured on the undersideof and adjacent the outer corners of t-he rectangular sections 23, with the studs 25, therein, provided to be inserted in suitable apertures therefor, formed'in aplurality of angle plates 26, secured to the major length side edges of the embalming board, with the free ends thereof extending laterally therefrom, adjacent the endcorners ofthe embalming board, forming the main center supporting surface, of the bed structure when set up for use. c
If it is so desired, a transverse aperture 27, may be provided' adjacent thel free end lof the studs 25, for passing a suitable cotter pin or the like, carried by each. of said screw plates 24', by meansof la short section o f chain, throughthe said transverse aper tures 27, to prevent the disarrangement of theembalming board and bed frame connectingsections, when the struct-ure lisrnovedv about or llifted from a'given surface tempo-v rarily yas a unitary structure.
From the foregoing descriptiom'taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in they artthat Il have provided a simple, practical, and efficient foldable bed frame for use in conjunction with a regulation embalming board, which is particularly adapted to give a pleasing appearance to an emv'balming board when set up, eliminate the ghastly appea 'ance thereof When supporting a corpse, and which provides an inexpensive method for transforming a regulation embalming board, into a` day bed structure of standard Width.
Having described my invention, what I c-laim is:
1. The combination with a cooling board comprising a rectangular board having legs supporting it in a horizontal. plane, of a folding bed frame comprising end sections and parallel side members therefor, means for detachably assembling'said end sections and side' members about the embalming board, and hinged means carried by said side members forenclosing and abutting the side edges of said enibaln'iing board Hush therewith.`
2. The combination with a cooling board comprising a. rectangular board having legsl supporting it in a horizontalA plane, of a foldable bed frame comprising end sections and parallel side members therefor, means for detachably connecting said end sections and side members, foldable means associated with and hingedly carried by said side men1- bers normally in a lateral inwardly extending position for enclosing and abutting the side edges of said embahning board flush therewith. n
3. The combination with a cooling vboard comprisingv a rectangular board having legs supporting it in a horizontal plane, of a foldable bed frame comprisingend sections and parallel side members therefor, means for detachably connecting said end sections and side members, foldable ine-ans associated with and hingedly carried by said side mem bers normally in a laterally and inwardly extended position for enclosing and abutting the side edges of said embahning board flush therewith, and connecting means carried on the under side of said hinged means and' side edges of said board for maintaining said bed frame and board in adjusted assemble-d relation upon the placement thereof.
l. The combination with a cooling board comprising a rectangular lfioard having legs supporting it in a horizontal plane, of a foldable bed-forming frame comprising end sec# tions and parallel side'n'ien'ibers tlierefor, means for deliachahly connecting said end sections and side members, hinge means carried `by said side members intermediate their ends to permit folding of saidside members u pon themselves, relatively narrow rectangular ledge sections hingedly connected to the outer upper edge of said sidey members and normally adapted to rest thereon in a 'hori- Zontal inwardly projectingmanner for enclosing and abutting the parallel side edges of said embalniing board flush therewith, said ledge sections further adapted to increase the Width of said embalming board, and connecting means disposed'on the under'- side of said ledge sections and side edges of said board for maintaining said bed and board in adjusted assembled relation upon moving or raising the same for placement..
In testimony whereof I aflii; my signature.
