IMPROVEMENT IN RUBRER DRAwERs FOR INVALIDS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent Not [67,215, dated August 31, 1875 g application filed July 24, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mrs. MARIA BRADLEY, (Morrisania Post -Oice,) of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Rubber Drawers for Invalids, of which the following is a specication:
The figure is a plan view. of my improved device.
The object ot' this invention is to furnish improved rubber drawers for paralytics and other invalids who cannot get out of bed, and cannot be lifted, and especially for those whose disease is such as to cause a continuous discharge of urine, to prevent the bed from becoming wet, and to prevent the consequent formation of bed-sores upon the invalids, and which shall be simple in construction, convenient in use, and ert'ective in operation. The invention consists in improved rubber drawers for invalids formed of the body open at the sides, and the tube, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the rear part and B is the front part of the body of the drawers, which are made of such shape and size as to it snugly around the hips and thighs of the invalid, and the sides of which are made open, and their side edges provided with buttons and button-holes, or other convenient fastenings, to enable them to be readily secured in place. In the lower middle part of the front B isplaced the end of a small tube, G, which may be made with an enlargement near its upper end, as shown in the figure. The tube G is made of such a length that it can be led from the invalid to a vessel placed at the side of or beneath the bed, to receive the urine as it flows out through said tube.
In using the device, the upper edge of the back part A is drawn up beneath the hips of the invalid, which may be done without disturbing him, and the side edges of the parts A B are then buttoned or dtherwise fastened together. A linen cloth may be interposed between the drawers and the hips of the invalid to prevent his hips from being heated by said drawers. The device is made of rubber, so as to be water-proof.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Improved rubber drawers for invalids formed of the body A B, open at the sides, and the tube C, formed integral with the drawers, substantially as herein shown and described.
