Application filed March 19, 1927. Serial No. 176,619.
My invention relates to window mountintegral and compact construction in itself ing and aspecial object of my improvement is to provide a simple and eficient channel for the glass of automobile windows which shall be durable.
Figure 1 is a detail section of a construction embodying my invention and so much of the adjacent parts of a window as is necessary to illustrate its connection therewith.
Figure 2is asectional view of a slightly modified construction, the glass being removed. v I
F igure3 is a perspective view of a section of a strip embodying my invention, separate from the window.
a is the side of the window frame, having the usual vertical ledge, or shoulder, a 12 is a metal strip of the form in cross section shown, serving to present an opposing surfaceb to the surface of the ledge, or shoulder, a the two forming together a vertical groove ab at the side of the window.
Instead of the metal strip 6 a wooden rod ba may be used. v
c, c are rubber tubes running parallel and adjacent to each other in the groove at. These tubes are surrounded, or wrapped, in a fabric strip or sheet (Z. This sheet has its edges 03 adjacent and parallel to each other at the center and extends laterally in both.
directions therefrom, then outwardly and around the tubes 0, c, then inward and lying inside of and against the first mentioned portion of said sheet thus forming contig' uous folds of cloth united together by the stitches e, e.
The construction above described has been previously used. The glass g, as shown in Figure 1, slides between the felt surround-- ing the tubes 0, c.
f, f is a base-strip of rubber of a channel, or U-shape, in cross section and of a size to fit and lie in the inner portion of the groove (L6. This strip is placed in the groove of the base strip, as shown, the folds of the fabric sheet coming in its channel and the whole is secured by clips or otherwise.
The tubes 0, c are located outside of the groove or channel of the base strip just be yond the outer edges of the flanges, or branches, of the U-cross section.
. the combination of a of said base piece,
By this construction the strip forms an that forms a way for the glass, as illustrated in Figure 3, the depth of this way from the outer portion of the fabric surrounding the tubes to the inner portion ofthe groove, or channel, inthe base height. of the sides of said channel, or
groove, whereby glasses of diiferent widths f plate 7 is greater by the may be accommodated and the wholestrucv ture is more durable and'convenientlyhandled. i
What I claim is:
1. The combination of a window groove, 9. base piece of resilient material of a U-shape in cross-section in the inner portion of said groove, two parallel and adjacent tubes in said groove and aisheet of suitable material surrounding said tubes and extending into the channel of said base piece, said tubes being located beyond the outer edges of the flanges of said base piece.
2. In an apparatus of the kind described, rubberstrip U-shaped in cross-section, two flexible tubes outside of said strip and parallel to the edges thereof and a sheet of fabric surrounding said tubes and extending into the groove of said U- shaped strip.
3. The combination of a window groove, :1
base piece of a U-shape in cross-section in.
the inner portion of said groove, two parallel and adjacent tubes in said groove and a sheet of suitable material passing over said tubes and extending into the channel said tubes being located beyond the outer edges of the flanges of said base piece.
4. A combination of a window groove, a
base piece of resilient'material of a U-shape in cross-section in the inner portionof said groove, two parallel and adjacent tubes in said groove and a sheet of suitable material passing over said tube and secured to said base piece, said tubes being located beyond the outer edge of the flanges 'of said base piece.
In testimony whereof, I sign this specification.
EDWARD F. TANNEWITZ.
