IMPROVEMENT IN KNOCK-DOWN BEDSTEADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,798, dated August 17,1875; application filed June 5, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM SMITH MosEs,
' of Lebanon, in the county of Grafton and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and Improved Knock Down Bedstead, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a method of detachably locking the end boards and standards of the head and foot portions of a bedstead by hooks on the lower end board and screws at the top, by which the parts may be readily separated for packing and be put together without the aid of skilled labor.
Figure l is partlya side elevation, and partly a sectional elevation, of an end portion of a bedstead constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a section on-line or w, and Fig. 3 is a detail section on line 2 .2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the standards, which are grooved at B for receiving the end boards 0 D E, and at the lower end of each groove is a cavity, F, for a hook, G, on the lower end board. The middle board D is fitted in grooves in the boards E and O, and the top board E is fastened to the posts by the screws H, which I enter the top molding I, and lock the whole firmly together. board E are permanently fastened together; but they may be detachable, if preferred.
In putting the parts together the bottom board 0, with its hooks, is put in the standards first, the middle board next, and the top one last. The screws then draw the whole up firm and tight.
The screw-heads are covered by the rosettes J, or any approved ornaments.
Having thus described my invention, Ielaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the standards A, grooved at B and having cavity F, and the boards 0 D E, of the hooks G and screws H, applied as and for the purpose set forth.
