Description
SIMPSON.
Cigar-Mold Press.
Patentgd Aug..10,1875,
A INVENTOR N. PETERS. FHOTOLITHDGRAPNER, WASHINGTON. I) 6y UNITED STATES PATENT JOSEPH SIMPSON, OF NEWARK, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN CIGAR-MOLD PRESSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l66,643, dated August 10, 1875; application filed March 25, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH SIMPSON, of Newark, in the county of Licking and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Mold Presses; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a press for pressing cigar molds, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my cigarmold press, and Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the same.
A A represent a series of cigar-molds of any suitable form and construction, placed on top of each other in the usual manner. Around these molds is placed a wrought-iron band or stirrup, B, as shown. 0 represents a bedplate, on which are two ears, a a, and a series of ratchet-teeth, b 11. Between the cars a a is pivoted a lever, D, the smaller end of which extends at an angle with the main part thereof, and on the upper surface of the short arm are notches d d. To the end of this arm of the lever is hinged a pawl, E, which takes into the ratchet-teeth b. The plate 0 is placed on top of the top mold, and the lever placed under the top bar of the stirrup B, so that it will take into one of the notches d. By now pressing down on the outer larger end of the lever D the molds will be pressed firmly and closely together, and at the same time the pawl E rises and takes into the ratchet-teeth b, to hold the molds together. Wedges G may now be inserted between the top mold and top bar of the stirrup, so that the press 0 D E can be removed without loosening the molds, and the press be used for pressing other molds, if desired. v
This press is cheap, simple, and durable, and not liable to get out of order.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The within-described press, consisting of the bed-plate G, with ratchet-teeth b, angular lever D, with notches (Z, and pawl E, in combination with a series of cigar-molds, A, and stirrup B, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of February, 1875.
JOSEPH SIMPSON. Witnesses:
Gno. W. GROSSER, ISAAC W. BIGELOW.
