Specification forming part of Letters Patent-No. 1I 66.6l 3., dated August 10, 1875; application filed May 25, 1875.
To all whpm it may concern:
Be it known that I, BUsHRoD W. JAMES,
of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Spring-Clasp for Holding Gurrency, Cards, Sau., of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to make a cheap clasp for eeetnally retaining small currency, tickets, cards, and similar articles, and this object I attain in the manner which I will now proceed to describe, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Fgure 1 is a perspective view of my improved retainng-clasp; Fig. 2, a side view.- ,The spring-clasp is formed of a strip of steel or other elastic metal, bent so abruptly at c as to bring the surfaces of the opposite arms b b into close con tact with each other, a small opening being'formed near the bend for receiving a suspending string or cord'. The extreme ends b b of the arms are bent `outward from Aeach other, so as to facilitate the introduction of notes 4and tickets. In order to obtain amore effectual hold upon the paper introduced int-o the clasp I corrugate or wave the elastic arms b b where the surfaces of t'ne same come in contact, (see Fig. 2;) or, if preferred, a slight twist may be imparted tothe arms first in one direetion and then in the'other, the corrugations of one arm coinciding with those of the o ther.
I claim- A spring-catch for tickets, currency, &c., consisting of a strip of steel or other elastic material, bent and corrugated as described, and presenting elastic arms, corrugations on one arm coinciding with those of the adjoining.. arm, all substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof 1 have signed my name to this specitication in the presence of two subscribing, witnesses.
