Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN HAGGERTY, OF CORRY, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HI RIGHT TO V. Gr. CURTIS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SLATE-FRAMES.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,523, dated August 10, 1875 application tiled May 26, 1875.
I slates 3 and it consists in covering the frame of the slate with felt, or other suitable material, which covering has a bead formed all the way around the frame, so as to completely deaden the sound made by the slate in coming in contact with the desk or other objects.
Figure lis a side elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the same, showing different-shaped beads.
a represents a common school-slate, the frame of which is covered With'a jacket of felt, c, which jacket or covering is provided with a bead, e, of the same material, and of any desired shape or thickness. Where the frame is simply covered with felt or rubber this covering serves to a considerable extent to deaden the noise made by the striking of the slate against benches and other hard objects, but does not entirely obviate the great noise that is always made in a school-room. By making this bead as a part of the covering, the covering is made sufficiently thick to entirely deaden all noise Without making the covering so thick as to be clumsy and bungling.
Having thus described my invention, I claim rIlhe slate-frame having a covering, C, of felt or similar material, provided with a bead, e, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 1st day of May, 1875. A
JOHN HAGGERTY.
