UNITED STA Tes JAMES B. DOUGLASS, OF HARVEY, IOWA.
GLOVE PROTECTOR.
Application med May 12, 1925. serial No. 29,755.
This invention relates to hand coverings and has particular-reference to attachments for gloves. l I.
yAnimportant object of the invention is to provide a glove attachment adapted to prolong thelife of gloves. l i Y ,l i
A further object of the invention is the provision of an attachment formedof dura blematerial adapted to eoverfthe front of the-glove land protect the,l same from severe 5Wa1`-j:, r- .'v
VA still further object of the invention resides in the provisionlof y anattachment whichmay-.be removably associated with a glove.- g ,Y l i .i A
Other objects and advantages of this inventionwill become apparent as the vdescripf tion progresses. .i i
In thel accompanying drawing forming 'a part of this specicationand in which like Anumerals are employed to designate corre-v sponding parts throughout the same:
Figure-1 is a front-elevationofjthe .protector constructed in'accordance with myinn vention,
- VFigure 2 1s a rear elevation of the same,
Figure taken onthe line 3- 3 of Figure 2, and
FigureA is a partial perspective view showing the construction of the finger stall portions.
It is well known to those familiar with the art that during the process of corn husking and similar operations the persons so engaged find it necessary to wear gloves or mittens to protect the hands from the rough nature of the work. Due to the severe usage to which the gloves or mittens are subjected the front Yfaces or palms become worn very quickly and it is necessary to replace the Y 3 V1s a transverse sectional view` face of the glove and substantially prolonging the life thereof.. l i l,
e Referring now more particularly tothe device embodying my invention,.thenumeral 5 generally indicates the bodyv or palm portion'of my improved attachment constructedv integrally throughout of durable andl'elas'tic material, preferably rubber or the' like, vand adapted to entirely ing side of the glove. Thel embodiment shown in Fig 1, is lprovided with n'ger stall portions 6 sides especially adapted to beemployedas'a protector upon the cloth gloves or glovesof similar construction. Theends' of thenger stall portions arel provided with tips 7 adapted to substantially cover the ends of -the finger stalls of the glove and protect the same "from wear.. l i
The finger stall are detachably Aretained in association; with cover, the front or wo'rlr-lA extending substantially faboutlthe portions 6 vof the protector the glove and hand by means" of arcuate ,y
transverse stripsS formed on the said 'portions, each ofthe portions, in the present instance, being` provided'with 'two such strips. It will'be ,observed by reference to Fig. 2
that the strips 8 are spaced with respect 'tom each other and are located beyond the bases ofk the,y finger. stalls `except yhowever 'in 'the case of kthe thumbstall where the linner one ofthe stripf located substantiallyl at the necting with the back 'strips 10 and wrist band 9.
It is apparent froml the foregoing, that the covering 5 may be detachably positioned upon the gloved hand of the wearer and provide a durable covering upon the front working surface of the glove. The linger stalls'of the glove are also adequately protected due tothe extension oftlieveovering material upon the sides thereof; The secure base, q Due v,to thisl 'arrangement of theI stripsu., there is provision made for' perfect freedom i 'ing stripsand bands formed on the back of the protector will snugly engage against the back of the finger stalls and back of the glove to prevent displacement of the covering and at the same time the open construction of the back and finger stall portions will prevent interference with freedom of movemen of the fingers.
It is to be noted that the palm portion 5 may be formed to snugly fit the mittens often worn by corn huskers and wouldV therefore obviate the necessity of providing the finger stall portions 6. Suitable transverse strips such as shown at l0 on the glove structure could easily be provided in place of the finger strips 8 to retain the mitten protector in position. n
It is further to be noted that various means for securing the protector upon the glove maybe employed, as for instance, by securing the protector to the frontsurface of the glove by adhesive, sewing, or in numerous other ways.
It is' to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as the preferred example of the same, and that various changes as to the shape, size and arrangement of parts m-ay be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention, or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
l. A glove protector, of elastic material and integral throughout, comprising a palm portion to cover the palm vof the glove, a wrist portion and linger stall portions to cover the frontl and sides of the respective finger stalls of the glove, a plurality of spaced strip portions connecting the opposite sides of each finger stall portion, beyond the base of said portion, and a strip portion connecting the opposite sides of the palm portion inwardly of the bases of the finger stall portions and spaced forwardly from the wrist portion. y
2. A glove protector, of elastic material and integral throughout, comprising a palm portion to cover the palm of the glove, a wrist portion, and linger stall portions to cover the front and sides of the respective finger stalls of the glove, each finger stall portion at its outer end being extended rearwardly to provide a iinger tip portion, a plurality of spaced strip portions connecting the opposite sides of each finger stallportion, beyond the base of said portion,
tendingbetween the opposite sides of theV corresponding part of the palm portion, strip portions extending one between the opposite sides ofthe palm` portion inwardly of the bases of the finger stally portions,-
another eXtending between the opposite sides of the palm portion and spacedwith respect to the last mentioned 'strip portion and likewise with `respect to the wrist porL tion, and another strip portion extendingA between and mutually connecting the .two last mentioned strip portions and the last mentioned strip portion and the wrist portion.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JAMES'B. DOUGLASS.
