R. AGUILAR SAFETY RAZOR Filed Feb. 16. 1927 Patented Mar. 27, 1928.
UNITED STATES RAMN AGUILAR, F NEW YORK, N. Y.
SAFETY Razon.
I Application led February 16, 1927. Serial No. 168,604.
r1`his invention relates to safety razors and particularly to a novel guard for safety razors. The invention has for'an object the provision of an adjustable guard adapted to be suitably positioned for protecting the sury ceive the stud 12.
face being shaved.
Another object of the' invention is the provision of a safety razor guard having an extensible side member adapted to be adjustlo ably positioned for varying the closeness 4of cut of the blade.
For further comprehension of the inventionl and of the obj ectsl and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularlyset forth.
FReferring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a razor embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the razor shown in Fig., 1.
Fig. 3 is an elevational View, partly in section, of a razor embodying my invention.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view of a safety razor guard embodying my invention.
Referring particularly to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates a handle member, 11 a' top shield and 12 the screw threaded stud secured to said top shield and employe'd in clamping the blade 13 between the top shield 11 and my improved bottom guard 14, the shield, stud, handle, and blade being of well known construction.
The'guard 14 com rises a metal plate having a curvature con orming with the curvature of the lower surface of the top shield 11 and is provided with an opening 15 to re- T he longitudinal edges of the metal plate 13 are serrated, being provided with rectangular teeth 16 as shown in r Fig. 4. Recesses 17, terminating at a shoulder 18 are. provided along the lower longitudinal edge portions of the guard 14 and are extended into the guard beyond the base of the teeth 16. Spaced apart dovetailed, transverse slots 18 communicating with the recesses 17 are provided on the lower surface of the guardmember 14 as shown in Fig. 4. a
Supplementary adjustable edge members 19 are mounted on the guard 14 in the longitudinal recesses 17 therein. The supplemen- United States is:
In operation the supplementary guard edge 19 may be extended or retracted as desired to adapt the razor for makingv a rough or smooth shave respectively. When the supplementary guardisretracted the edge 29 of the blade 13 extends outwardly relative to the rounded end 25 of the teeth sections 23 and the cutting edge is rpermitted to` closely engage the surface being shaved but when the supplementary guard is extended, the teeth 23, engaging the surface being shaved, prevent the blade to approachsaid surface. It should be understood that individual adjustment of each supplementary guard may be effected by li t'ting the spring 26 by means ofthe knobs 30 mounted thereon. and positioning the ends of the-springs in the desired notches. I f desired one edge guard may be set for producing a rough shave and the .other edge for effecting a smooth shave and these edges may be used alternately.
Having thus fully described and shown an embodilnent of my invention, what is desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the `1. In a safetyI razor comprising a bottom guard member having longitudinal recesses alon I the edges thereof, rectangular teeth on tie edges of said guard, bars slidably mounted in said recesses, supplementary teeth sections on said bars adapted to be positioned in close proximity to said rectangw lar teeth for extending the length thereof and a blade disposed above said bottom guard comprising cutting edges, said supplementary teeth sections being adapted to be extended to various positions in advance of said cutting edges.
2. In a safety razoricomprising a bottom. guard member having longitudinal recesses along the edges thereof, rectangular teeth on the edges of said guard, bars slidably mounted 1n said recesses, supplementary teeth sections on said bars adapted to be positioned in close proximity to said rectangular teeth for extending the length thereof, a blade disposed above said bottom guard comprising cutting edges, said supp1ementaiy teeth sections being adapted to be extended to various positions in advance of said cutting edges and means for retaining said supplementary teeth in an adjusted position comprising a spring clip engageable with spaced notches in the lower' surface of said guard.
3. A safety razor comprising a bottom guard, having spaced notches on the lower surface thereof and spaced transverse recesses therein, an adjustable edge member on said guard comprising spaced extensions slidable in said recesses and locking means comprising spring members mounted onsaid adjustable edge members at one end and adapted to engage said notches at their other ends for retaining said edge members in an adjusted osition.
In testlmony whereof I have affixed my signatureD RAMN AGUILAR.
