PATRICK F. MOAULEY, OF BUCKNER, ILLINOIS.
PEN AND PENCIL HOLDER.
Application filed July 28, 1927. Serial No. 209,040.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in holders, and particularly to holders for pens and pencils.
One object of the invention is to provide a holder which is readily capable of being secured on the front of a shirt, or other garment, which is not provided with pockets, and which will properly hold a number of pens and pencils.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which is provided with a friction element, for the purpose of more securely retaining the pens and pencils therein.
Other object and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the holder shown in connection with a portion of a shirt. *9
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the device.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, the body 10, of the holder is formed from two strips of metal, or other suitable stiff material, each strip being corrugated transversely, so that the corrugations of one strip are disposed opposite those of the other strip, to form vertical tubular members. The ends of the strips are secured together by means of rivets 11, or other suitable means. Secured to the outer face of one of the strips is a pin fastener 12, by means of which the holder is secured to the shirt 13. Disposed longitudinally between the strips 10 are two strips of elastic material 14, such material being normally in close contact, as clearly seen in the sectional view, Figure 2, and portions of such material extending transversely through the centers of the tubular members.
A pencil is placed with its pointed end between the elastic strips 14, or between the strips and the wall of one of the tubular members, either forwardly or rearwardly of the elastic strips, and such pencil then pushed down into the tubular member. The elastic strips frictionally engage with the pencil whereby such pencil is securely held in the holder, but may be easily withdrawn when needed.
The pin fastener 12 permits easy removal of the holder for attachment to another gar ment.
This device is especially useful in warm weather, when coats and vestsare left off, and the owner has no pockets into which to place pens and pencils. The ordinary shirts are not equipped with pockets, and with this device, the owner can carry the usual number of pens and pencils. without danger of loss, and Within convenient reach.
What is claimed is:
A pen, and pencil holder comprising a plurality of pen and pencil receiving tubular members, means for attaching the tubular members to a garment, and elastic strips extending longitudinally between the tubular members for frictional engagement with 70 pens and pencils inserted into said bores.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
PATRICK F. MGAULEY.
