wEr'r-BEPLEN'ISHING Loom.
Application led November 21, 1925. Serial No. 70,468,
The present invention relates to an improvement in weft replenishing looms.
Heretofore the transferrer of'a weft re'- plenishing` loom, has comprised a 4hammer which engagedthe butt o the bobbinto be transferred to the shuttle to replenish the weft therein, such transferred hammer having .a tip engaging portion toengage the tip.-
of the `bobbin so as to secure the certain in sertion of the bobbin in the shuttle. The tip engaging portion of the transferrer has yarn extending from the bobbin outwardly to the yarn end holder, and this, of course, is for that reasonobjectionable. It has been pro osed to provide a. weft replenishing mec anism with a transferrer having a hammer adapted to engage the yarn in order to avoid cut-ting of the `yarn .at the tip. Such hammers, however, are'not well adapted for use with pieces, that is, with bobbins not provided with a full supply of yarn.
' vAccording to the present invention the transferrer is provided with the usual hammer, with a arn engaging portion and with a portion w ich, when the yarn 1s not sufficient to enable the yarn engaging portlon to control the position of the bobbin, will engage the tip of the bobbin in such excep- -tional circumstances, and thereby secure the correct presentation of the bobbin to the shuttle. The invention consists inthe weft replenishing loom hereinafter described and particularly defined in the claims.
In the/.accompanying drawings -illustrating the preferred form of the invention, Fig. 1 is a transverse sectionthrough the hopper, showing the transferrer of aweft replen1shing loom in position to transfer a bobbin .from the hopper tothe shuttle; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the lower portion of.
the hopper, showing the relative positions of the bobbin and -hammer at the time theV hammer is about to insert a bobbin in theV end disk 3 of the weft replenshing mecha nism of the loom are, or may be, of the usual form. The weft hammer 4 is pivoted at 5 in the usual manner, and carries the butt end hammer 6, whichI is adapted to enga e the butts 7 of the bobbins 8. The butt en hammer 6 is provided with a boss 9,-which re-` position. `The curvature of the yarn engag-l ing portion is made to correspond to that of the surface of the bobbin so that when it strikes the bobbin vit will not cut it or injure it.
Supported from the right-hand end of the yarn engaging portion 12 (in a left-hand y loom such as that shown in t-he drawings) there is the tip engaging portion .13 which, under ordinary circum tances, does not touch or engage the tip`18 the bobbin. It is adapted; however, in exceptional circumstances, as, for example, where the bobbin is provided with onl a portiori of its load, to engage the tip o the' bobbin and therebyV secure the correct presentation of the bobbin to the shuttle.
T he present invention eliminates the usual and regular en agement of the tip engaging portion of the ammer with the bobbin, and thereby reduces the losses .due to the cutting of the yarn extending from the bobbin to the yarn end holder. In ordinary circumstances the yarn engaging portion of the hammer by engagement with the yarn in conjunction with the butt end engaging portion, effectively controls the movement of the bobbin from^the hopper into the shuttle. But
when, owing to some virregularity of operation which might be due to the fact that the l bobbin was only partially filled, the shuttle would tend to tip, thenV the small end engag ing portion of the transferrer strikes the tipA of the bobbin and forces the bobbin directly into the shuttle. f v
- Havin thus described the invention, what is claime is:
1. A weft replenishing loom havin ,in combination, a ho per, and a trans errer having a butt en engaging portion, an intermediate yarn engaging portion separate from the butt-engaging portion and provided With a tip engaging portion.
2. A weft replenishing loom having, in combination, a hopper, and a tranferrer comprising a butt end engaging portion, a longitudinally extended, concave, yarn engaging portion, and a tip engaging portion normally located with relation to the yarn engaging portion in such position as notl to engage the tip of the bobbin, but adapted to engage the tip when the bobbin is not provided With a full supply of yarn.
3. A weft replenishing loom having, in combination, a hopper, and a transferrer comprising a longitudinally extended butt end hammer, a longitudinally extended yarn engaging member, and a bobbin tip engaging member held from engagement with the tip by a full supply of yarn on the bobbin.
4. A weft replenishing loom having, in oombination,'a hopper, a transferrer having a buttV end engaging portion, a tip engaging portion, and a long intermediate yarn mass engaging portion mounted in spaced relation to the butt end engaging portion and adapted to engage a large area of the yarn during bobbin transfer.
5. A weft replenishing loom having, in combination, a hopper, a transferrer, having a butt end engaging portion, an intermediate yarn engaging portion and a tip engaging portion, and means for supporting said yarn engaging portion and tip engaging portion for adjustment relative to the butt end engaging portion.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
