UNDERGARMENT.
Application filed April 16, 1926. Serial No. 102,580.
This invention relates to undergarments and particularly to underwear having an open crotch, and it is the primary purpose of the invention to form the: parts of the underwear about the seat and crotch such that the flap employed as a closure of the opening may be pulled back to give an effective opening considerably greater than that possible with the structure heretofore com-- monly employed.
This and other objects as may be apparent in the following description are accomplished as indicated in accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a rear elevation of an undergarment;
Fig. 2 a side elevation of the garment;
Fig. 3 a fragmentary front. elevation of the garment; and
Fig. 4 a corresponding fragmentary rear elevation of the garment.
Like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
The garment here shown is made with a back-belt 10 as the top boundary of the two panels 11 and 12 forming the back section of the garment below the belt 10 and the backs of the dependent legs (Figs. 1 and 2). The upper section of the back of the garment is comprised of a single panel 13 which is gathered at its junction with the belt 10 to form a blouse effect.
Joined to the back so formed by seams up the side, are the two front panels 14 and 15 which extend downwardly to form the front sides of the-legs (Figs. 2 and 3). A short panel 16 joins the lower side of the front panel 14 to the lower side of the rear panel 11 to complete that leg, and similarly, the panel 17 interconnects the lower sides of the panels 15 and 12.
Referring to Fig. 3, the junction of the front panels 14 and 15 with the inner panels 16 and 17 defines the line a b c as extended around over the crotch, being in effect an inverted U. Viewing the garment from the rear, as in Figs. 1 and a, the rear panel 11 is cut back to the right from the center line a; 3/ to create the opening a d e. The panel 12 is symmetricallycut back from the center line :0 y to the left on the line 2, f g. The
lines 8 (Z 6 and t f g extend slightly out- Wardly from the center line w y for a short distance down from the belt 10 and then rapidly diverge tocurve outwardly thence around and backwardly toward the center line at y to the tops of the panels 16 and 17, and these lines 8 cl e and t f g, by continuing across the top edges of these panels 6 h a and g 0, are connected by the line a b 0, thereby forming a. continuous line 8 d e h a b 0 is g f t which defines the entire seat and crotch opening below the belt 10.
It is to be particularly noted that the opening in the seat of the garment does not have straight sides but is curved outwardly from the center line. Were the lines 8 d e and t f g straightened to straight lines 8 e and t g, the effective opening of the seat would be greatly decreased.
The fullness in the seat as shown in Fig. 2, in the flap 18 is produced by forming the edges of the two pieces in convex curves sewed together on the line my, Fig. 1.
As an enclosure tothe opening above definedby thelinesdehab clcgft, afiap 18 is formed of two symmetrical pieces united by a seam on the cent-er line, such flap 18 being sewed to the garment by its top edge under the belt 10 and thence down its entire left-hand edge along the edge of the opening in the garment on the line If f g k, thence along the top of the panel 17 and up over the crotch on the line is 0 b a. The flap 18, however, is left open along the entire other edge, as along the line a h e (Z s, such that the flap (Fig. 4:) may be pulled to the left to the open position. To prevent any gap along the open edge of the flap 18, a
Thus it is seen by the foregoing description in reference to the drawing that the opening and flap so formed provides for a securely closed crotch and at the same time permits a very large opening when the flap is turned back.
I claim: I
1. In a union garment, an upper back portion, a lower back portion, a non-yielding belt uniting said upper and lower portions, said upper portion having an appreciable fullness above the belt, said lower portion having a seat opening therethrough, and a seat closure secured to the lower back portion having a fullness formed therein.
2. In a union garment, an upper back section, a lower back section, a belt secured to and between said two sections, said upper section having an appreciable fullness formed therein above the belt, and said 10wer section having an appreciable fullness formed therein below the belt.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. r
LEO T. DWYER.
