For purposes of illustration, 1 have shown my invention as embodied in a pair of womens slacks having front and rear sections l and I0 joined byvertical side seams Il, one only being shown. The usual side pockets I2 and 12 are also provided, and in accordance ,with the present invention, a placket I3 is associated with the outer wall of one of theside pockets (herein thelefthand pocket I 2) in such away asto conceal eiiec tually a slide fastenerrconnection l4 normally closing the placket.

The pocket I2 is suitably attached to and suspended from therear portion l5 of the usual waistband l5, and the normally closed placket opening extends vertically along the. outer wall l2 of the pocket near the rearedge of the pocket opening. The inner wall 12 of the pocketis preferably extended rearwardly substantially beyond the rear edge of the outer wall l2? and is suite ably attached to the rear section ill of the gar ment at the inner side of such s ection,qpreferably along the side seam I l. A facing strip I8 is projected from the vertical seam ll forwardly into the pocket opening, for

the sake of appearance, and preferably the inner forthe inner rear edge portion of the outerpocket wall, the construction being conventionaLexcept thatone edge portion of the welt is also free for a purpose which will presently appear.

The slide fastener l4 providesa disengageable connection between the. welt l9 and the rearedge of the outer pocket wall 12 The slide fastener is of conventional construction, comprising two fastener strips or webs [4 and 14', one secured to the rear edgeof the outer pocket wall llZ and the other secured to the free edge of the welt l9 on the front section II] of the garment. When these twostrips are interlocked to close the placket,

the welt forms in effect a continuation or rarwardextension of the outer pocket wall, the edge of the welt being free. .The upper extreme portion of the placket opening is held closedby suitable fasteners such as a pair of buttons 20 and2l respectively secured on the inner side of the front overlapping portion 15 of the waistband and on the front side of therear underlapping portion [5 of the waistband, it being \understood that the cooperating parts of the band are formed with suitable buttonholes 22 and 23. l i

In practice, thepockets areof course prepared f separatelyand stocked for subsequent use. i As thus prepared, they may be equipped witha fastener strip M constituting one halffiof a slide fastener; This permitsof a substantial saving in time in the actual making of thegarment. l It will be observed that the pocket, being suspended from the rear portion of the waistband and secured to the inner face of the rear section I0? of the garment,serves as a; covering strip for the inner edge portions of theclothwhere joined by the vertical seam I I. In prior constructions, a separate covering strip is commonly eml ployed for this purpose. l l

Of primary importance is the disposition of the placket opening so as to be concealed effectually from view notwithstanding gapping .of the pocket 1 opening. This is made possible by suspending the 'pocket from the rear portion of the waistband and by locating the placket opening between the rear edge of the outer pocket wall and the welt l9 forminganinner facing for the front pocket wall 12 Heretofore, thecommon practice has been to suspend the pocket from the front overlapping endportion of the waistband and to form the placket opening between the rear edge of the l edge of this strip is stitched to the inner walllZ of the pocket. Also, the upper rear edge portion of the front section H), which is left free on account of the pocket opening,is provided on its inner side with a welt l9 to form an inner facing inner pocket wall and the rear portion [0 of the garment. This has necessitated the use of a covering strip overlying the slide fastener closing the placket, whichcovering strip'not only adds to the cost and bulk of the garment but does not effectually conceal the zipper fastening in the event of gapping of the pocket opening. In brief, by the construction and arrangement employed, a substantial improvement in appearance is effected and at the same time the cost of production is materially reduced.

I claim as my invention:

1. A garment construction of the class described comprising, in combination, front and rear sections joined in a vertical side seam with a waistband open at such side and having a front overlapping end portion adapted to be secured detachably to an underlying rear portion, a pocket suspended from said rear portion of the. waistband and opening rearwardly,.said pocket having an extended rear wall attached to the rear section of the garment at the inner side thereof and a front wall terminating short of the rear edgeof the front section of the garment,a weltsecuredto the edge of said front section upon the inner side'thereof and having a free edge, a slide'f'a'stener detachably connecting said welt and the rear edge of the pocket front wall to form a placket, said fastener having two attaching'webs respectively secured to the free edge of said welt and to the rear edge of the outer pocket wall, and a facing strip attached to the rear wall of the pocket in opposed relation to said welt, said facing strip being joined to the rear section of the garment by said vertical seam.

A garment construction of the class described comprising, in combination, front andrear sections joined in a vertical seam with a Waistband open at one side having a front overlapping endportion adapted to be detachably secured to an underlying rear portion, a pocket. suspended from said rear portion of the waistbandand opening rearwardly, said pocket being attached to the. inner side of the rear portion of said waistband. and having a rear wall attached to the. rear section of. the garment at said vertical. seam, and a placket having a disengageable slide fastenerv connection between the rear edge of. the

front wall of the pocket and the frontv section. of the. garment.

3. A. garment construction of the class. described. comprising, in combination; front and rear sections joined in a vertical side seam and having. a waistband open at such side with a front portion overlapping the rear portion fora substantial distance, a pocket suspended from and attached to said rear portion of the waistband and to the rear section of the garment, the front section of the garment having a welt at its rear stantial distance, a pocket suspended from and attached to said rear portion of the waistband and to. the rear. section of the garment, the front section of the garment having an inner welt at its rear edge below the waistband, a slide fastener detachably connecting said welt with the rear edgeof the outer wall of the pocket, and a facing strip extending forwardly from said vertical side seam into the pocket-opening and secured to the inner wall of the pocket.

5; A garment construction of the classdescribed comprising, in combination, a rear section and. a front section; a waistband to which said two sections are attached, said waistband being open atone side. and having overlapping front and rear portions with means for securing the front portion in overlapping relation to the rear portion, and a pocket suspended'from the rear portionof the waistband and opening rearwardly with. the. rear edge of its outer. wall detachably connected to the front section of. the garment to form a normally closed placket.

6. A garment construction. of the class. de scribed comprising, in combination, a rear. sec;- tion and a front section, a waistband. to which said two sections are attached, said waistband being, open at one side and havingoverlapping front and rear portions with means for securing the. front portion in overlapping relation to. the

rear portion, and a pocket suspended. from the rear portion of the waistband'and opening, rear.-
