DRAIN PLUG.
Application filed June 27, 1927. Serial No. 201,639.
My invention consists in the novel construction hereinafter particularly described and distinctly claimed.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved drain plug which may be used in wash-bowls, bath tubs, kitchen sinks, laundry sinks or trays, slop sinks or other forms of sinks or drains which necessitate the use of a drain plug, and which improved plug will, if adapted, eliminate the necessity of purchasing a plug for separate use in each of the above mentioned forms of drains, as my improved drain plug can be used in either as it combines all said plugs in one.
Another object of my invention is to provide a drain plug that will be simple in construction, durable in operation, and of low cost to manufacture.
In the drawing Fig. 1 is a top plan view of my improved drain plug.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of same, illustrating the manner in which my invention 1s used, the drain-pipe being shown in section,
V and Fig. 3 is a section of the drain'plug, the sect-ion being taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1. Referring to the drawing by numerals, the numeral 1 designates the drain plug, which is made of a solid piece of rubber,
. but which may be made of any desired material, and having a large portion of the rubber extending upwardly from the center of the plug proper; this large portion be ing designated by the numeral 2 and is adapted for use in the drains of bath tubs,
I kitchen sinks, laundry sinks or trays, or any such places where a large drain plug is needed.
The numeral 3 designates a smaller portion of the plug which is used in the drains of wash bowls and other place where a small drain plug is needed The numeral 4 designates a flat portion which extends outwardly from the center of the plug proper; said flat portion being provided with a series of beads 5 and 6 on both the top and bottom portions thereof which rest or bear upon the fiat surface of the sink, washbowl or laundry tray, and which makes a tighter connection with the drain, and should be used, should the user of my inyention desire to convert a kitchen sink into a slop sink, or other use. Said beads 5 and 6 are plainly shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawing.
The numeral 7 designates a series of beads or slots which take the form of saw-teeth and are for the purpose of causing a greater suction to occur when that portion of the drain plug is in use, and will serve to prevent the said drain plug from being accidentally removed from the drain pipe.
The numeral 8 also designates a series of beads or slots which are formed on the lower or smaller portion 3 of the drain plug, and which serve in the same capacity as the above mentioned beads or slots 7 formed on the larger portion 2 of the said drain plug.
The numeral 9 designates a suitable ring that is pivotally mounted to a screw-cap 11 that is screwed to a small bolt designated by the numeral 10, and a suitable drain plug-chain 12 is attached to the said ring 9 so that it will not be necessary for the user of my drain plug to place the hands in the water to remove the plug from the drain pipe when itis desired to drain the sink, or other container, containing the waste water.
While I have illustrated certain details which I deemed to be particularly effective, and have illustrated a construction which is very easy and of low cost to manufacture, I do not wish to be limited to these details, as it is obvious that many changes might be made therein without departing from the spirit or scope of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is A new and improved drain plug constructed as described and having a large rubber plug that is provided with a series of beads or slots that are cut around the outer walls thereof in the form of saw-teeth, and which is adapted to lit the drain pipes of bath-tubs, kitchen-sinks, laundry-trays or other forms of drains where large drain plugs are needed; a flat round piece of rubber having a series of beads formed on both the top and bottom sides thereof, and adapted to engage or rest upon the flat enameled surface of a bath-tub, kitchen-sink or other such container when it is desired to convert the latter into a slop-sink; and a small rubber plug, that is provided with a series of beads or T; OFF C I w slots that are cut around the outer Walls thereof in the form of saw-teeth, and adapted to fit the drain pi es of Wash-bowl, or basins, or other form 0i basins Where a small 5 drain plug is needed, and means whereby suitable chains may be attached to the drain plug in order to remove the said drain plug from the drain pipe Without placing the hands in the Waste Water, substantially as described. a a
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
BERNARD P. SMITH.
