COMBINATION' UNDERGARMENT.
Application lcd April 23, 1926. Serial No. 104,005.
My invention relates to combination under-gari'ncnts designed especially tor women and characterized by having` peculiar adaptability for utilization in dancing, in engaging in theatrical exhibitions and athletic sports.
The main object oil my invention is the provision of' an under-garment of this character which will embody certain desired features of simplicity, etliciency and convenience and which will be economical in manufacture anddurable in use. i
Another object ot my invention is the provision of a corset-like under-garment of this character, by which the desired adjustable support may be given to the abdomen, by which the abdomen and hips may be constricted, and by which these ends may be achieved while permitting free. and unrestricted movement of the legs.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. i
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a. part of this specilication, and in which,
F ig. 1 represents a front elevational View ot a garment made in Laccordance with my present invention;
Fig. 2 represents a fragmental cross section on an enlarged scale, taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 represents a central vertical section through the garment, this View being taken substantially on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1 but on an enlarged scale with the human body indicated in broken outline; and
Fig. 4 is an enlarged tragmental view showing how the crotch strip is detachably connected to the supporting part of the garment.
The preferred embodiment of my invention, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, comprises an inner girdle 5 adapted to encircle the body oit thewearer about the upper portions of the hips and abdomen, this inner girdle including an elastic insert 6 at the front and also including separable hoolrs and eyes and 8, respectively, of which in the present embodiment, the hooks 7 are shown as attached to the reenforced end of the elastic insert 6 while the eyes 8 are attached to the adjacent terminal of the girdle 5. Spanning the elastic insert 6 at the front of the girdle 5 is an auxiliary part 9 which includes lacing 10, one end of this auxiliary part being detachably connected to the girdle 5 by means of suitable hooks and eyes 11 and 12, respectively.
From an inspection of Figs. 1 and 3 ot the drawings, it will be seen that the inner girdle 5 is made with leg extensions 13 `which are unconnected at the crotch region where they divide trom the girdle 5 and which are out away at the back and front as at 111 entirely around the crotch regionso` as to provide unobstructed open spaces thereat. By thus producing a garment including anencircling girdle havinoleg extensions open and cut away at the ack, at the crotch and` at the front where they divide :from the girdle, it will beseen that I provide a garment which may be used to bind and support the ab domen, to co'nstrict the hips and one which permits the legs to be moved freely and unrestrictedly. 15 designates an outer girdle which is secured by seams or stitching as 16 and 17 to the inner girdle, said seams or stitching extending across the back and to the sides of the hips where they terminate in cross seams or stitches 18. The front portions 19 of the outer girdle are loose and unconnected with the inner girdle and the same have their top edges out away as at 20 below the top edges oi' the inner girdle 5. The loose front portions 19 of the outer girdle are connected by suitable lacing 21. The loose iront portions 19 ot' the outer girdle are adapted to tit snugly upon the lower portion ot' the abdomen and over the hips so as to bind and constrict the same; and it will be observed that the said front portions 19 reeni'orce the lower part of the inner girdle and extend across the upper part otl the open space between the leg' extensions, while at the rear the outer girdle also extends across the open space between the leg extensions.
In accordance with another feature of my improvements, I provide a. crotch strip 22 which is seamed or otherwise suitably secured at 23 to the lower edge ot' the outer girdle at the back thereof, the front portion of said strip 22 being biturcated to produce the branches 23 each provided with suitable hook elements 241 adapted to cooperate with the eye elements 25 arranged on the elastic insert 6. This crotch strip, having one end attached to the outer girdle and the other end attached to the elastic insert of the inner girdle, serves to hold the both girdles from creeping upwardly on the body of the wearer.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into eect, this is capable of variation and inodiiication without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be liinitedto the precise details of construction set vforth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modiications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A combination garment including an inner openable girdle; leg extensions on the girdle cut away at the crotch, front and rear where they divide from said girdle; an outer openable reenforcing girdle extending well over the hips and well down over the abdomen and crossing the spaces between the leg extensions at the Jfront and rear; and a crotch member connecting the inner and outer girdles, substantially as described.
2. A combination garment including an inner openable girdle; leg extensions on the girdle cut away at the crotch, front and rear where they divide from said girdle; an outer openable reentorcing girdle extendinof well over the hips and well down over the abdomen and crossing the spaces between the leg extensions at the front and rear; and a crotch member secured to the outer girdle at the rear, branched at the liront and having the ends or' its branches detachably connected to said inner girdle, substantially7 as described.
3. A combination garment including an inner girdle openable at the itront and having an elastic insert; an auxiliary lacing connected part spanning said elastic insert; leg extensions on said girdle cut away at the crotch, front and rear where they divide from said girdle; an outer reenforcing girdle extending well over the hips and across the open space between the leg extensions and having loose lacing connected front portions extending partly across the auxiliary part and partly across the open front space between the leg extensions; a crotch member connected to the outer girdle at the rear and to the elastic insert of the inner girdle, substantially as described.
In testimony7 whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
RALEIGH B'ICCABE.
