EXPRESS ENVELOPE.
This invent-ion relates to improvements in express envelopes, and more particularly to a triple notch seal express envelope.
It is the primary object of the present in vention to provide an express envelope in which the pockets are protected by additional flaps and so arranged and sealed that the contents of the envelope can not be reached or tampered with unless the envelope is mutilated.
' A further object of the invention is to provide an envelope having a safety fold construction and so arranged that the flap may be sealed directly to the envelope in three places below the safety crease.
A further object of the invention is to provide an express envelope of the class described which is of very simple construction, is strong and durable, is inexpensive to manufacture, and is well adapted for the purpose escribed. I
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the improved express envelope and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims and all equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying drawing in which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views:
- Fig. 1 is a rear view of the envelope with the flaps up and unsealed;
Fig. 2 is a rear view showing the flaps folded and sealed; and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line &3 of Fig. 2.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing it will appear that the improved express envelope includes a face portion. 5 and a back portion 6, the face portion hav ing a lower flap 7 folded over upon the lower portion of the back and secured thereto. Also, the face portion has a closing flap 8 extending from its upper edge portion and adapted to fold over uponthe back, as shown in Fig. 2. a
A feature of the invention is the provision of a plurality of auxiliary flaps 9 joined to the upper edge of the back portion 6 and adapted to fold over on the crease line 10.
The auxiliary flaps are separated by U- shaped notches 11. r
The inner portion of the closing flap 8 has thereon an area: of adhesive material indicated at 12 and the'adhesive material at the end portions is extended down, as at 13 so as to partially coincide with the end notches 11. A central extended adhesive area 14 extends into the central notch 11. c
When the envelope is closed and sealed the auxiliary flaps 9 are folded down and the closing flap 8 is folded thereover on the back and the" adhesive material is sealed thereto. The adhesive extensions 13 and ll give direct adhesion to the envelope in three places and between the auxiliary flaps.
In use, of course, the contents for the envelope are disposed in the pocket formed between the face and back portions of the envelope and when the auxiliary flaps arefolded and the closing flap sealed, as described, the to envelope is especially safe against rifling due to the auxiliary flaps between the closing flap and the entrance to the pocket and the direct adhesionof the closing flap to the Back in three places between the auxiliary 15 aps.
From the foregoing description. it will be seen that the improved safety express envelope is of very simple and novel construction,
and is Well adapted for the purpose de- 00 scribed.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. An envelope, comprising a body portion, auxiliary flapsextending from the upper edge of the back of the body portion 5 and adapted to fold over on the back, notches of less width than said auxiliary flaps being formed between the same, and a closing flap extending from the up er edge of the front of the body portion an adapted to fold over 00 on the back and auxiliary flaps,'the inner face of said closing flap having an edging of adhesive material, said adhesive material being extended at certain places to enter the notches formed between said auxiliary flaps.
2. An envelope, comprising a face portion, a back ortion, said face ,and back portions being oined to form a pocket therebetween, a pair of end auxiliary flaps and a pair of longer intermediate auxiliary flaps extending from the upper edge of the back portion and adapted to fold over on the same, there being U-shaped notches of less width than said auxiliary flaps between the same, a elosin fla extending from the upper edge of t e ace portion and adapted ELIJ AH G.
