T Application November 11, 19:5, sci-1.1 at. 49,1'l8 1 claim. -(l. 229-63) The present inventionrelates to an improve- .ment in bags for receiving articles of merchandisc, and it relates more particular provement in bags of the locking and carrying type wherein an aperture is centrally provided by said foldable flap and adapted to be folded a) through said aperture, and means for securing said foldable flap in a folded or bag-closing position at points along the open bag end removed and spaced therefrom, spondins y spaced posed face of said the edges thereof. For the purpose of illustrating the present in vention, there is shown in the accompanying drawing one form thereof which has been found and a-plurality of corresummed areas on the juxtaganized and that the invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumen liti'es as herein shown and described.
Referrin to the drawing in which like reference characters indicate like partsz Figure 1 is an elevation of a bag exemplifying one formaof the invention, the bag being in open 5 condition. I

w v v Figure, 2 is a section on the line 2- -2 of Figure 1,- looking in the direction of the arrows. Figure 3 is a fragmentary elevation of the bag shown in Figure 1 as it appears when closed.
Figure 4 is a section of the bag shown in Figures 1, 2 and 8, as it appears when closed, taken on the same plane as Figure 2. I i The embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 is a bag or container l4,, generally of known form, having a body portion 1o areas of the bag. It will be observed that the gummed areas 2| 4-5 on ply it are not only spaced from each other" but are spaced of p17 It. Also ,fla ungummed area I. which separates the summed areas 20, and the areas further are spaced u 2 from the free edge at the end of the flap I! by an ungummed strip "a. as well as from the side edges of the tie it by ungummed areas llb, i8b.-
The bag or container I4 is illustrated as having also other means for connecting flap II to ply ii in addition to the gummed areas. Such additional means is of known character and comprises an aperture 22 in ply II and apair of wings 23, 23 on flap it formed by cuts 24, 24 which extend from the free edge of such flap inwardly and then toward each other. By bending the wings 23 they may be passed through aperture 22 so as to contact with the inner face of ply II when the flapit is folded down as shown in Figures 3 and, 4.
carrying, being generally open at one end and having a flap extending beyond said open end, a centrally located aperture extending transversely through the bag near the open end thereof, through which the hand may be extended for holding the bag pendently; said flap being adapted to be folded over the open end of the bag and having a tab formedtherein adaptedto be folded into said transverseaperture in the body of the bag thereby forming central locking means, a similar gummed area on the face of said bag on either side of said transverse aperture and spaced therefrom, said areas extending near to but not quite'up to the edges of the bag and of said aperture and being also spaced from the open end thereof, and a similarly spaced gummed areas on the juxtaposed face of said flap and spaced from the edges thereof, whereby, by folding over the flap and pressing together the corresponding gummed areas, those portions of join the transverse aperture but are spaced a substantial distance therefrom may be securely closed. and whereby the central portion of the bag opening may be closed by means of the coacting flap tab and the central transverse aperture. 2
