Description

'C.RUMEN&
Ironing-Table. No.165,5ll. Patemedxulymnss.
" NITED STATES PATENT OFFIC.
CHARLES RUMENS, 0F INDIANAIGLIS,'INDIANAv IMPRVEMENT IN IRONINGTABLES.
Specification forming part lof Letters Patent No. 165,51 l, dated July 13, 1875 application filed June 8, 1375.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES RUMENS, of the city of Indianapolis, Marion county, Indiana, have invented an Improvement in Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a specification:
The nature and object of the invention will be fully understood from the following general description and the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a top view of the device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section with a part of a table; Fig. 3, a transverse section of the same.
The top a of the board is of the usual form. On the bottom, at m, there are fastened two strips of wood lengthwise on the board, so as form a dovetail-shaped slot from c to d, as shown at m in Figs. 2 and 3. d is a block, fastened on the under side of the board a at its wide end, as shown in Fig. 2. To this, by means of the bolt b, is fastened the block e. This block e has a rabbet cut in it to accominodatef, the top of the table, to which it is secured by the set-screw s. The blocks d and e are not fastened together so tightly but that the board may be swung about to either side d, turning upon block e. i is a supportingblock, the top of which is so formed that it will tit in the dovetail slot at m, and may be moved back and forth between blocks c and d at pleasure. The whole device to be as shown in the drawing.
To use this device, it is fastened on the table f by the set-screws, as shown in Fig. 2, with the small end extending over the top of the table. The operator, it' it be desired to iron any continuous garment, such as a skirt or the like, can either swing the board around Vuntil the block r clears the table, when the skirt In an ironing-board, the combination of the top (t, the blocks d and c, tbe bolts b ands, the dovetail slot atm, and the block 1', substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing vspecification I have hereunto set my hand this 25th day of February, 1875.
CHARLES RUMENS.
