The present invention relates to an improvement in thread extractors for looms.
The objectof the invention is to produce an improved thread extractor of simple construction, therefore inexpensive to build and of eflicient and reliable form. To these ends the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly de fined in the claims.

The illustrated embodiment of the invention is described as follows: The thread extractor consists, in general, of an extractor wheel mounted on a bracket secured to the end frame of the loom underneath the posi tion occupied by the lay at its front center. The wheel is operated by connections with the lay rock shaft to rotate intermittently during the operation of the loom, and as the bobbins are discharged from the shuttle, the thread extending from the bobbin to the lay is caught by the teeth of the extractor wheel and pulled out of the loom.
The thread extractor consists of an extractor wheel 1, provided with extractor teeth 2. The wheel is supported on a stud 3 carried by the bracket 4, which bracket is securely bolted to the end frame 5 of the loom; The stud 3 extends from the bracket 4 rearwardly, upwardly and toward the frame of the loom so that the axis of the extractor wheel occupies a position extending upwardly from the bracket at a slight angle to the horizontal and toward the frame of the machine as shown best in Figs. 2 and 3. The wheel 1 is provided with a drum 6. The drum carries a bearing block 7 at its rear end which is supported on the stud 3. At the front end the drum and wheel carry the ratchet wheel 8 which is secured thereto and a'lfords a bearing for the front end of the wheel and drum on the stud 3. The extractor wheel is rotated to the left, as viewed in Fig. 1, by means of a reciprocating extractor drive slide 10, the upper end of which carries a pawl 11 pivoted to it. The pawl is provided on one side with a pawl tooth and on the other with a weight, as seen in Fig. 5. \Vhen the slide 10 is depressed, the tooth of the pawl'engages a tooth of the ratchet wheel 8 and rotates the latter. and thereby rotates the threadextractor and drum. The weight normally holds the tooth of the pawl outwardly in position to engage the teeth of the ratchet wheel 8. A stop 13 on the rear side of the actuator slide 10 normally supports the pawl in the position shown in Fig. 5. During the rising movements of the actuator slide 10, the pawl swings clockwise, as viewed in Fig. 5, as it passes by the teeth of the ratchet wheel 8. The slide 10 is guided on one side by theguard 15 projecting downwardly and rearwardly from the bracket 4, and on the other side by the guard 17 projecting rearwardly from the bracket 4, so that the slide is compelled to reciprocate within the limits permitted by these two guards. The bracket is further provided with the ratchet guard 19 which extends rearwardly from the bracket and surrounds, covers .and protects the ratchet wheel from access of lint or thread.
The actuator slide 10 is reciprocated by the lever 21 which is bolted on to the lay rock shaft 23 on the outside of the picker stick hub. A spring 25 normally pulls upon the slide 10 in the direction to hold it against the guard 15, from which it may be pushed away slightly during its rising movement. By reference to Figures 1 and 2, it will be seen that when the bobbin is changed and the ejected bobbin is discharged from the shuttle, the thread 27 extending from it to the lay occupies a position in front of the extractor wheel, as shown in Fig. 2, then as the lay retreats after replenishment, the thread occupies a position indicated at 29, Fig. 2, thus being drawn across the teeth of the extractor wheel. The position of the thread as shown at 29 in Fig. 2 is such that it appears in Fig. 1 as shown at 31. During this retracting movement of the lay, the rotation of the extractor wheel engages the 5 thread extending to the exhausted bobbin and pulls it out of the lay. The bracket 4, upon which the extractor wheel and drum are mounted, is provided with an upwardly extended thread guarding disk 33 over the edge of which the thread extends when the extractor wheel is operating to pull it out of the lay. As the extractor wheel rotates. it carries the thread along 'on the edge of this guarding disk 33 until the thread strikes the guard 35 over which it draws the thread and which operates to guide the thread from the extractor on to the drum on which the thread, if long enough, is wound up and thereby removed from opportunity of ac- 0 cumulation in places where it will interfere with the operation of the loom. This bracket 4 is also provided with bobbin can positioning lugs 37 and 39, which receive the bobbin can between them in the position indicated at. 41 in Figs. 1 and 2, by dash and dot lines.
Upon the change of filling being indicated by the filling feeler, the change is effected when the shuttle is in the shuttle box over the bobbin can and thread extractor. The bobbin ejected from the shuttle falls into the can and the thread extending from-the bobbin to the lay, on the first backward beat of the lay, is engaged by the teeth of the extractor wheel, and that portion of the thread extending from the extractor wheel to the lay is wound up on the drum of the ex- Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is: 1
1. A thread extracting device for looms having, incombination, a thread extracting wheel provided with thread engaging devices, mounted with its axis extending from the front toward the rear of the machine and supported in position to engage a thread from an ejected bobbin upon the backward movement of the lay, and means for actuating the extractor wheel.
2. A thread extracting device for looms having. in comlnnation, a rotary thread extracting device mounted with its axis extending from the front toward the rear of the loom. and means for rotating it to engage the thread extending from the lay to an ejected bobbin to pull the thread out of the lay upon the backward beat thereof.
3. A thread extracting device for looms plenishing side of the loom, and means for rotating the extractor.
4. A thread extracting device for looms having, in combination, an extractor wheel provided with thread engaging teeth mount- -ed with its axis inclined and extending rearwardly and upwardly and supported in position to engage a thread from an ejected bobbin upon rearward movement of the lay, and means for rotating the extractor wheel.
5. A thread extracting device for looms having, in combination, a thread extracting wheel provided with thread engaging teeth, a drum secured to the thread extracting wheel, a shaft on which the wheel and drum are mounted extending from the front toward the rear of the machine and adapted to be supported beneath the shuttle box on the weft replenishing side of the loom, a ratchet wheel on the shaft, a guard for preventing access of lint to the ratchet,-and a reciprocating lever having provision ftir engaging the ratchet to rotate the wheel and drum intermittently.
