A. HADLEY MEANS FOR SECURING ROWS OF PEARLS OR THE LIKE Fild Aim. 6, 1925 TIE-.1-
Patented Oct. 18, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ART HADLEY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE HADLEY COMPANY,
OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
MEANS FOR SECURING ROWS F PEARLS OR THE LIKE.
Application filed August 6, 1926.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in means for securing rows of pearls or the like, and the primary object thereof is to provide improved means 5. for securing rows or strands of pearls, beads, ornaments or thelike onto an attaching member. r
A further object of the invention is to provide means of the type set forth, which is of simple and economical construction,
and which enables the pearls or the like to be easily and quickly secured onto an attaching member and effectively held in position, without the use of extraneous or mo able fastenings.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a plan view of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detailview of the attaching car of an end hook for wrist watch bracelets,
in connection with which latter the invention is illustrated by way of example;
Fig. 4 is a section on line H of Fig. 1 and Fig. 5 is a detail perspective View of the attaching bar. 7
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a bar body 1 is provided which has cylindrical pintles 2 at its ends, the bar being formed of a sheet or plate of metal rolled, bent or curled into tubular form to provide pintles 2 and radial lips 3. The body is laterally perforated at 4. according to the number of strands of pearls 5 that are to be secured. The pearls or other ornaments are threaded or strung on silk threads or chains 6 and the free ends of the latter are then passed through the perforations or passages 4; so as to'lie within the 40 body and between the lips whereupon thelips are pinched or compressed so as to frictionally grip the threads 6 and thus firmly secure or anchor the threads to the bar.
In the drawings, an end hook 7 having.
Serial No. 127,609.
bendable cars is illustrated in connection with one use to which the invention may be put, the ears being first spread to aline the pintles 2 with their perforations, following which theears are bent into'the position illustrated in the drawings, thus supporting the pintles for free pivotal movement.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that no movable or extraneous parts, are em-.
ployed in securing the strandsor pearls or the like to the lips 3, and while the latter is shown attached to an end hook, it will be understood that such illustration is purely by way of example."
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new anddesire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A connector for strings of pearls and the like composed of a hollow barhaving a laterally perforated body, a pair of lips extending outwardly from the body, and strings having pearls thereon and having one end passed through the perforations and received between the lips, the lips being common to all of the strings and compressed to frictionally and simultaneously engage and hold all of said string ends therebetween.
2. A connector for strings of ornaments composed of a hollow body having a'series of perforations along a side thereof, and
having a pair of' spaced opposed parts at the opposite sideof the body and with the space between said parts alined with the perforations, and ornament-carrying strings having one end thereof extending through the perforations and received in the space between said parts, said parts being common to all of the strings and being compressed to frictionally and simultaneously, engage and hold all of the string ends therebetween.
, In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification. M
, ART HADLEY.
