warren tar IBEAI) BRACELET 0R EARRING AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME.
Application filed. April 15, 1922. Serial No. 553,277.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Cinemas H. SHER- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have in vented a new and useful Bead Bracelet or Earring and: lVlethod of Making Same, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel bead bracelet or earring having a novel arrangement of beads and presenting a novel and highly ornamental appearance. It is further an object of my invention to ,provide a novel method of making this bracelet and of fastening it together.
I attain these and other objects of my invention by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:-
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bracelet in use;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of same.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of 2.
Fig. l is an edge elevation of the bracelet.
Fig. 5 is a view of an earring made in accordance with my invention, in use.
Figure 6 is a side elevation of the wire and the metal bead into which the end of the wire is hooked in the process of making the bracelet.
Fig. 7 is a view of the device with the beads strung on the wire and showing the method of hooking the wire into the metal bead 8.
Fig. 8 is a view of the earring showing the method of fastening it together;
Fig. 9 is a detail view of the double bracelet showing the connecting link 6 constituting the final step in the method of making the bracelet; and
Fig. 10 is an enlarged detail view of the means for securing the bracelet together by the hooked end.
Like numerals designate throughout the several views.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, I provide a plurality of flexible wire rings or strands 1 on which are strung a series of suitable beads 3 and 4, preferably disposed in alternate arrangement as illustrated. Wires 1 may be of any suitable tempered wire, either steel, German silver, or precious metal. Beads 3 are of either a diiferent color or a different size from beads 4- and may be of both different color and diiterent size, thereby presenting a novel, striking like parts and attractive bead bracelet uniform in character on the two rings or strands, as shown. I may, however, use beads of uniform size throughout the strand it preferred.
In carrying out the method of making the bracelet, I ailix a metal head 8 to one end of the wire strand 1. The metal bead 8 is provided with an opening 10. The beads are strung upon the wire in the desired arrangement and hook 9 is then formed in the free end of the wire. The two wires are then strung together by the connecting wires 5, shown in Fig. 9. The last operation is to hook the hooks 9 on the endsof the wires into the openings 10 ot the end metal heads 8 and secure same by solder 11.
I provide a suitable number, preferably four, connecting links 5, the looped ends 6 of which engage the wire strands 1, and hold them in a definite spaced relation. Each wire 5 ms a bead 7 surrounding it, as shown in the drawings.
What I claim is:
1. In a bead bracelet or earring, the combination of a plurality of flexible wire strands formed into rings, beads strung on the strands, a plurality of connecting wire links holding the rings in a definite spaced relation, and beads strung on said connecting wire links.
2. In a bead bracelet or earring. the combination of a flexible wire strand, a metal head aiflxed to one end of said strand, the metal bead having an opening positioned opposite the portion of the bead which is aflixed to the end of the strand, beads of? other material strung on the strand, a hook formed .in the other end of the strand, said hook being engageable on the inner edge of the bead adjacent to the opening to secure the bracelet or earring together.
. 3. The method of making a bead bracelet or earring consisting of afflxing a flexible wire strand to a metal bead at one of opposite openings in said bead, threading a series of beads of other material on the wire strand until it is full, forming a hook in the free end of the strand, engaging said hook within the unincumbered opening oi the metal bead, and soldering the hook end of the strand to this metal head.
CHARLES H. SHERMAN.
