The device forming the subject matter of the present invention includes a pair of pivotally connected limbs clearly illustrated in Figures 5 and 6, the limb shown in Figure 5 being made up of spaced sections 10 which are joined together at their lower ends, to provide a space therebetween for the reception of the limb 11 shown in Figure 6. This limb is comparatively wide adjacent one end as at 12 and provided with a slot 13 adapted to fit between the sections 10 at the upper ends thereof, which are provided With openings 1t registering with the slot 13 to receive the bolt 15 which has a thumb nut 16 associated therewith. By reason of this c0nstruction it is manifest that the limb 11 can be swung upon its pivot to any angular position with relation to the limb sections 10, and may also be adjusted toward and away from the limb sections as the occasion mav require by means of the slot 13.. tions 10 when not in use as clearly shown in Figures 4: and 7, one edge of the limb being relatively thick to provide shoulders 17 adapted toengage the adjacent edges of the section 10 of the other limb, to limit the movement of the limb 11 when being folded. The forward edges of the sections. 10
are provided with lateral flanges 18 as a clearly shown in Figure. 5,.and these flanges adjacentthe upper end of the limb are provided with slotted extensions 19 to accommodate the adjustable wings 20.
As shown in Figure 2 there is one of these wings for each slotted extension 19, each wing including a curved edge 21 and a straight edge 22, while projecting from the curved edge at an appropriate point in the length of the wing is an apertured lug or ear 23. Each ear 23 supports a threaded bolt adapted to be received by the adjacent slot ted extension 19 and which bolt has a thumb nut 24 threaded thereon so that the wings can be held fixed relatively to the limb 10 in any given position. These wings are capable of being wholly removed from the extensions 19 and their positions reversed from that shown in Figure 3 to that shown in Figure 2, when use of the wings is desired. It will be noted that in the normal position of the wings in Figure 3, the straight edges 20 are arranged to contact the adjacent sides of the sections 10, with the pointed extremity of each wing arranged behind the adjacent flange 18, thus protecting this end from being injured in any way while the device is in its folded condition- As above stated, when use of the wings isdesired, they are removed from the slotted extensions 19 and their positions reversed with relation to said extensions, so as to arrange the straight edges outermost.
As above stated, the limb 11 can be arranged at any designed angle to the limb sections 10 and is used for the plumb cut,'while the wings 20 are susceptible of adjustment with relation to the limb sections 10 and are used for the side or cheek cut. The tool of course can be used either right or'left. When setting the tool for use one of the wings 20 should be first arranged at the proper angle, after which the limb 11 is set for the plumb cut, and by shifting the limb 11 toward and away from the limb sections 10 through the slot 13, the sharp corners or points of this" limb can be arranged to meet the pointed end of the adjacent wing. The other wing is then set accordingly and the entire tool is then ready for use. When the wings are folded against the sides of the limb sec tions 10, and the limb 11 folded between the said sections, the entire tool can be reduced, to a small compact article which will occupy but a minimum of space in a tool kit or the like. V
While it is believed that from the fore- 7 going description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood, that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is:
A bevel square of the character described comprising a limb including spaced sections, the upper ends of which are reversely offset, a second limb having an offset slotted extension, slidably and pivotally associated with the offsets of the first mentioned limb, said second limb being capable of being arranged at any desired angle with relation to the first mentioned limb, or folded between the sections thereof, means for releasably holding said limbs fixed relatively, slotted extensions projecting laterally from the first mentioned limb, wings slidably and pivotally mounted on said extensions and capable of being arranged atdesired angles with relation to said limb, each win-g including a curved edge and a straight edge terminating in a pointed extremity for said wing, said wings being each capable of being reversed onthe extensions so as to present either edge to the adjacent side of the firstmentioned limb, and to enable the wing to be folded parallel with the latter when notin use, and means for holding said wings fixed relatively to said limb.
