M.. H ROSSNER COMBINATION DISH DRAINER AND TUB COVER Filed March 5o. 1927 INVENTOR USS/zei BY ATTORNEY WITNESSES ,oilily Patented Sept. v27, 1927.
PATENT oFFlcE.
MAY H. ROSSNER, OF NEW YORK, Y.
COMBINATION DISH DRAINER AND -TUB COVER.
Application led March 30, 1927. Serial No. 179,560.
This invention relates to a combination dish drainer and tub cover.
An object of the invention is to provide a combination device of this character which will replace, or take the place of, t-ub covers as commonly employed, and will provide an eiicient cover for the tub and in addition will provide a drainer in which dishes, silver and other articles may be drained.
It is a matter of extreme importance es* pecially in apartments or other places where economy of space is desired to utilize the wash tub or tubs not only for washing clothes but also to utilize them for dish draining purposes, and I have 'provided a cover which performs all the functions of an ordinary cover but in addition provides means whereby the dishes may be drained,
and I can manufacture and install this com- 'vice as a whole occupies no more space apbined device at a minimum cost and it will most eiiciently perform the functions for which it is intended.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure l is a plan view illustrating my improved device;
Figure 2 is a view in section on the line 2 2 of Figure l.
l represents a tub such as commonly employed for washing clothes or other articles, and 2 is my improved combined cover and dish drainer. My improved device 2 is preferably of metal, enameled or otherwise made so as to present an ornamental and attractive appearance and resist any deterioration from Contact with water.
The device 2 is adapted to fit over the tub l and constitute a cover therefor, and said device has a depression 3 therein which eX- tends substantially throughout the area of the cover, constituting a drainer. This depressed portion 3 tapers in all directions toward an outlet depression 4, the walls of which are perforated as shown at 5 so that the water draining from the dishes will pass into the tub.
This drainer or depressed portion 3 has a top 6 which has its edges fitting in offset portions 7 in the cover so as to lie flush with the top of the cover, and three-leaf hinges 8 secure the cover as a whole to the tub l or 'to a wall if desired, and also hingedly to connect the top 6 with the cover as a whole.
This top 6 is formed with a linger. receiv- 50 ing depression 9 adjacent its free edge so that the operator can place her fingers in this depression and lift the top and swing it back out of the way while the device is used as a dish drainer.
It will thus be noted that my improved depreciably than does an ordinary cover yet it permits the double function of cover and dish drainer and can be installed on new tubs or replace old covers, and will give great utility as well as economy in space.
While I have illustrated what I believe to be a preferred embodiment of myinvention it is obvious that various changes and alterations might be made in the general form of the parts described without departing from my invention and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such 30 changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
As a new article of manufacture, a tub cover having a depression therein constituting a receptacle for dishes to be drained therein, said depressed port-ion having an outlet for drainage, a top constituting a part of the cover Vand adapted to cover the depressed portion, and a three-leaf 'hinge con- 9o necting the cover and vtop to the tub or other support.
i MAY H. RossNER.
