INVENTOR. Ffa/7er.: lo/wl auc/r BY I ATTORNEY.
Patented June 18, 1940 UNITED STATES PENT FFICE COMBINATION SINK ANDI TUB Francis John Osuch, Grosse Pointe, Mich.
Application September 9, 1938, Serial No. 229,152
3 Claims.
This invention relates to washing apparatus, and more particularly to a combination sink and washing tub for dishes and the like.
The present application is a continuation in part of my copending application Serial Number 43,876, filed October 7, 1935, now matured into Patent No. 2,173,564, for Washing and drying apparatus.
One oi the objects of my invention is to provide a combination sink and tub which has provisions for draining both the sink and the over flow water from the tub through a single outlet.
Another object of my invention is to provide a combination sink and tub wherein the sink is removably nested in the upper part of the tub and the sink and tub are provided with openings arranged in alignment for draining the sink through a vertical wall of the tub so as to eliminate all drain connections, such as pipes and the like, from the tub so that it may be utilized solely for washing dishes and other articles.
Further objects and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, wherein a preferred form of the present invention is clearly shown.
In the drawing:
The gure in the drawing is a View in crosssection of apparatus embodying features of my invention.
In accordance with my invention, I provide a combination sink and tub arrangement wherein the sink is removably nested in the upper part of the tub, and the sink and tub are provided with drainage openings arranged in alignment for draining `the sink through a vertical wall of the tub so as to eliminate all drain connections, such as pipes and the like, from the tub so that it may be utilized solely for washing dishes and other articles.
Referring to the drawing, a sink portion 208 is provided with an open bottom which is adapted to be closed normally by a thin sheet metal removable sink 202 which is formed as a basin or pan. Preferably, sink portion 200 is formed integrally with drain boards 204. A tub 2&6 is secured to a sink portion 291i. The open bottom of the sink portion 28S is surrounded by marginal flanges 220. In this instance, the pan 22 is provided with an opening 2l2 which registers with openings 2id and 'MS in sink and drain connection 2l8, respectively. Thus, the pan 2li? may be drained directly into the drain and overiiow connections 2l8 whence the drainage passes into the drain pipe 229. The drain pipe 22@ may be connected to a drain vessel 222. The sink pan 2l2, when in position in the tub 26E, serves as a sink proper.
Although only-a preferred form of the invention has been illustrated, and that form described 1;
in detail, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modications may be made therein without departing from the spirit oi the invention or from the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
l. A combination sink and wash tub, comprising a sink having a normally open bottom nested within the open top of a wash tub, and a removable basin nested within said sink and forming a closure for the sink and tub.
2. A combination sink and wash tub, comprising a sink having a normally open bottom nested within the open top of a wash tub, a removable wash basin nested within said sink and forming a closure for the sink and tub, a drain conduit, and a connection associated with said basin and said drain conduit for draining said basin and having an opening for conducting the overflow from said tub.
3. A combination sink and wash tub, comprising a removable sink nested inv a wash tub, a drain conduit, and means associated with said drain conduit and extending through a vertical wall of the tub and being associated with the sink and tub for draining the sink without conducting the drainage into the tub and for conducting the overflow from the tub to said drain conduit.
