Patented July 26, 1927.
UNHTED STATES JAMES R. STARBUCK, OF TAMPA, FLORIDA.
GARTER.
Application filed May 3, 1926.
This invention comprehends the provision of a garter primarily intended for use with roll top stockings, the invention being constructed to accommodate itself to the roll of the stocking, and possessed of the desired resiliency for the comfort of th.
wearer.
More specifically stated, the lnvention contemplates a garter formed from a single length of resilient material, including spaced coil s, each of which is curved to provide one side of the garter with a concaved surface to receive the roll top of the stocking about which the garter is adapted to be arranged, and effectively supports the steel; ing upon the leg of the wearer, and also prohibits movement of the garter with relation to the stocking. I
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is re,ad in con nection with the accompanying draw ng, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
in the drawing forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in several v ews, and where n:
Figure 1 is'a view showing the application of the invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the garter showins; the ends of the same connected together.
its hereinabove stated, the invention is primarilv intended for use with roll top stockings. and is formed from a single length of any suitable material, possessing the desired resiliency for the purpose for which 1t used. The garter is preferably formed from a single length of wire which is shapedto provide an open band including a plurality of spaced coils 10, the CO1lS being preferably of the configuration clearly illustrated in Figures 2 and 3, wherein it will be noted that each coil is curved to provide one side of the band or garter with a concaved surface to receive the roll top of the stocking as shown in Figure l. WVh-en the garter is arranged about the rolled portion of the stocking it will properly supnortthe latter, the garter having the desired resilien y for Serial No. 106,527.
the comfort of the wearer. Furthermore by reason of the fact that one side of the garter is concaved, it accommodates itself to the rolled portion of the stocking in a manner to prevent casual separation of the garter from the stocking or movement with relation thereto. It is to be understood that the invention is to have a. wide range of manufacture, that is to say that it may be formed from inexpensive material with different designs to add to its attractiveness. The adjacent or free ends of the garter ma be connected together in any suitable manner. preferably by means of a buckle 11. This buckle may also be of expensive or inexpensive make. and is preferably attached to one end of the band as at 12, the other end of the buckle being formed with a hook 13 which is adapted to receive the other end of the band, or any of the coils for the purpose of shortening or tightening the garter as the occasion may require. he garter may also include a ribbon 14 which is adapted to be threaded through the coils as clearly shown and the ribbon may be of any suitable color to match the shade of the stocking with which the garter is used. Instead of ribbon the fabric indicated at 14 may be of elastic to add to the resiliency of the garter as a whole. The invention in the nature of a novelty, and also very useful and ornamental.
lVhile it is believed that from the fore going description, the nature and. advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
A garter of the character described comprising an open band formed from a single piece of resilient material and including spaced coils, means for connecting the adjacent ends of the garter together, and each coil being curved to provide one side of the garter with a concaved surface.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JAMES R. STARBUCK.
