Description

1w H, W36. M. LELY' COSTUME JEWELRY Filed. March 9, 1935 INVENTOR. Mama LQQ ATTORNEYS.
Patented Mar. 17, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 4 Claims.
This invention relates to costume jewelry and has for an object the provision of an improved self-attaching clip Which is so constructed as to be either inherently of an ornamental nature or to serve as an attaching clip for an ornament supported thereby.
The invention broadly comprehends a contrac tile helical clipbody of any desired configuration in which adjacent convolutions thereof are adapted to be separated to receive and clamp therebetween the article to be decorated thereby.
The invention in one of its forms consists of a coiled contractile body fashioned from a length of resilient wire, strung with beads or otherwise ornamented and having an enlarged knob or equivalent ornamental element at either one or both of its ends.
The invention further provides an improved article of the indicated character which includes a resilient body having coiled contractile opposite end portions, the adjacent convolutions of which end portions are adapted to clamp therebetween the article decorated thereby.
The invention further resides in the provision of an improved article of costume jewelry which is comparatively simple in its construction, economical to produce, capable of a wide variation of designs, which may be applied and removed with the greatest facility and which effectively retains itself in attached position against accidental or unintentional displacement.
With the above enumerated and other objects in View reference is now made to the following specification and accompanying drawing in which there has been set forth several preferred embodimen'ts of the invention, while the appended claimscover variations and modifications thereof falling within the scope of the invention.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a piece of costume jewelry constructed in accordance with the invention and illustrating the same applied to a hat for decorating the same.
Fig. 2 is a front view of the ornament on" an enlarged scale.
Fig. 3 is a side View of the same in appled position.
Fig. 4 is a perspective View of a modified form of the invention.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference and particularly to the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the article consists of a coiled contractile body A preferably constructed of a length of resilient wire I0 upon which is strung beads l I or equivalent ornamental elements which are arranged thereon throughout the length of the body. The opposite ends of the body have attached thereto knobs l2 and l3 or equivalent ornamental elements for obtaining a decorative effect and for retaining the beads or elements H on the body. In practice the end elements I2 and I3 may be attached to the wire in any desired manner such as by a threaded connection It so that the knobs or elements l2 and I3 may be removed if desired to vary the character of the ornamental elements ll.
In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, the knob or end element I2 is shown arranged so as to be disposed concentrically within the confines of the area encompassed by the coiled body A, while the knob or element I3 is disposed beyond the confines of said coiled body.
In the form of the invention shown in Fig. 4, the body consists of a length of resilient wire l5 having coiled contractile end portions l6 and H, the terminals of which are provided with knobs l8 or equivalent decorative elements. In this form of the invention, an ornament i9 is secured to the Wire l5 intermediate the coiled end portions, adjacent convolutions of which coiled end portions l6 and Il may be utilized to clamp therebetween adjacent portions'of the costume such as a dress, scarf, collar or the like.
What is claimed is:
1. A costume ornament including a resilient coiled contractile body, adjacent convolutions of which are adapted to clamp therebetween the article to be decorated thereby, ornamental elements at opposite ends of the body, one lying within the confines of said body and the other disposed beyond the confines thereof, and beads strung upon said body between said end elements.
2. A costume ornament including a body consisting of a length of resilient wire having coiled contractile end portions, adjacent convolutions of each of which end portions are arranged in different planes and adapted to clamp therebetween the article to be decorated thereby, and decorative means secured to said body intermediate the ends thereof.
3. A costume ornament including a resilient coiled contractile body, adjacent convolutions of which are adaptedv to clamp therebetween the article to be decorated thereby, and decorative elements strung upon said body throughout its length.
4. A costume ornament including a resilient coiled contractile body, adjacent convolutions of which are adapted to clamp therebetween the article to be decorated thereby, decorative elements strung upon said body throughout its length, and means for retaining said elements on the body.
