c. u. WEBER RING Filed Au ust 1, 1924 Patented Aug. 17, 1926.
CARLIlISLE U. WEBER, 0F NEWPORT, KENTUCKY.
RING.
' Application filed August 1, 1924. Serial in. 729,639.
My invention relates to finger rings and has particular reference to the provision of engagement and wedding rings which may be worn, when desired, as a unit.
The modern type of engagement ring usually is provided with a large setting and comparatively narrow band. It thus happens that when the engagement ring is worn with the wedding ring that the latter is displaced on the finger of the wearer, the lower portion of the ring resting next to the band and the upper portion'being dlsplaced longitudinally of the finger by reason of the lateral extension of the setting of the engagement ring. It is to overcome this difliculty directed.
A further object of the invention is to provide engagement and wedding rings which may be worn as a unit when desired,
Sentiment frequently dictates to the owner that she should wear both the engagement and wedding rings, whereas, as a matter of fact, such arrangement is inconvenient and, some times, more or less troublesome.
The present invention, therefore, provides engagement and wedding rings which may be worn together as a unit, and which, both from the standpoint of convenience and appearance, are of practically unitary construction, though when desired the two rings may be worn separately.
Further objects of the invention will appear from the following detailed description thereof:
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a ring constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is an elevation of same at an angle at right angles from the elevation of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a section on line 33 of Figure 1.
The numeral 1 indicates the upper portion of a ring suitable to be used as an engagement ring, the same being provided with the usual opening and prongs for a diamond setting 2. The portion 1 extends downwardly at the sides so as to form the upper semi-circle of the ring, the same being of unitary construction, but provided with a pair of downwardly extending that my invention is principally prongs or knuckles 33 at each lower eX- tremity said knuckles being spaced apart approximately the thickness of a ring. Hingedly secured to the prongs 33 are two semi-circular bands 4t constructed of the same material and of harmonious ornamental design with the portion 1..
The numeral 5 indicates an ordinary band ring suitable for use as a wedding ring, and the same may be of harmonious ornamentation with the ring 1 and bands 4. The ring 5 is of such thickness that it will fit between the bands l when the same are in parallel relation, the upper portion of the ring 5 corresponding in circumference to the upper portion 1 of the engagement ring and extending upwardly into the portion 1 below the setting 9, the upper portion being enlarged as shown at 6, and being hollow or interiorly gooved so as to provide a channel for the upperportion of the ring 5.
From the foregoing description the nature and advantages of my invention will be apparent. It will be observed that both the wedding and engagement rings may be worn as separate units, or when desired the wedding ring may be inserted between the bands 4, of the engagement ring, thus permitting the two rings to be worn as a unit. It will be understood that as the ring will of course fit upon the finger of the wearer the bands 4 although hingedly secured will be substantially rigidly held by the finger of the wearer. I
It will be understood that various modifications in construction and ornamental design may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention as defined in the appendedclaim.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In combination, a ring, said ring comprising a semi-circular section, semi-circular bands hingedly secured to the extremities of said section and arranged to be disposed concentrically in said first ring between said bands.
