Patented Dec. 21, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
l This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a waistline control garment.
Thefinvention contemplates the correction and improvements of several defects and disadvantages inherent in the construction of prior similar articles.
More specifically, the invention contemplates constructing an improved waistline control garment which is characterized by a ribbed knitted body engaging section having the ribs running vertically and having a waistline with a Vshaped, rounded, or straight cut out at the back for extending along the hollow of the back of a wearer,
and having cutout end portions continuing fromy said V-shaped cut out, or other cutout, and exf- Y.
tending along the sides of said body section, and a waistband of novel construction set into said cutouts and attached at its bottom and ends to the edges of the cutouts and adapted to act in a certain manner.
More specifically, the invention proposes For further comprehension of the' invention, andof the objects and advantages thereof, refery ence will be had to the following description and that the waistband proper be of one way stretch elastic material stretchable horizontally and of a shape to lit into said V-shaped or other shaped end cutouts of the body engaging section.
Furthermore, the invention contemplates the use of garters mounted upon the bottom edge of the body engaging section at the front and backA thereof. The invention further contemplates the use of elastic pieces of two way stretch material stretchable horizontally and vertically, or one way stretch material stretchable vertically only, and mounted on said waistband proper above and in line with said back garters.
The dominating feature of the construction embodying the objects set forth above, residesv in the fact that downward pulls on the back garters caused by their attachment to hosiery will be transmitted by the vertical ribs and material of the body engaging section to those portions of the waistband which have the two way stretch elastic pieces, or the one way stretch material, mounted' thereon. The waistband proper itself functions to maintain the garment properly tted on the waistline, and the extra elastic pieces prevent the stresses of the garters which are transmitted up to the waistline from deforming and interfering with action of the waistline band.
Still further the invention contemplates associating the elastic pieces and those areas of the waistband proper beneath the elastic pieces with the adjacent material of the body engaging section in a specific manner so that downward pulls transmitted by the body engaging section will be directly taken by the elastic pieces rather than by the adjacent portions of the waistband proper.
Another object of the invention is the construction of an article as described which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig.`l 1 is a perspective view of an improved waistline control garment constructed in accordance with this invention.
v Fig. 2 is `a, fragmentary enlarged horizontal sectional viewv taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical sectional perspective view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a. fragmentary vertical sectional perspective'r view 'taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentaryvertical sectional view taken on the line 5-.-'5 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary perspective view of an improved waistline control garment constructed according to a modified form 'of the'invention.
The improved waistline control garment, in accordance with that form of the invention shown in Figs. l to 5 inclusive, includes a ribbed knitted bodyengaging section I having the ribs II running vertically and having a waistline I2 with a Vgshaped or other shaped cut out I3 at the back for extending along the` hollow of the back of a wearer, and said V-shaped cutout being extended at'the ends and continuing into end portions I3 extending along the sides to the front of the body section I0. A waistband proper I4 of one way stretch elastic material, stretchable horizontally, as indicated by the double-headed arrow l4a., is of a shape to conform with and fit into the V-shaped opening I3 and has end portions fitting,` into the end cutouts I3. This waistband proper I4 is secured by a line of stitches I5 extended alongjmost of its bottom edge to the ad- -jacent edge ofthe cutout I3. Stitches I5' secure The body engaging section I0 is provided with f garters I6 at the back and other garters I6' at the front. The garters I6 at the front are directly below the front central top section of the body engaging section I0, which is located between the end cutouts I3'. The back garters I6 are located directly beneath certain back areas of the waistband proper I4. At these back areas there are elastic pieces I8. These elastic pieces I8 are two-way stretch material, indicated by the two directional arrows I8a. This two way stretch material is arranged to be stretchable horizontally and vertically. The elastic pieces I8 are mounted in a specific manner upon the Waistband proper I4.
Each elastic piece I8 is secured at its top edge by a. line of stitches I! to the adjacent top edge portions of the waistband proper I4. Binding strips Z and stitches 2| serve to attach both sides` of each elastic piece I8 to the adjacent material of the 1waistband Wproper l4.v- {I'he nstitches |-5 which secure 1life blttern edge dfftllewalstbend proper I4 to the material of the body engaging section IU are non-existent along the length of..
