Description

Jul 19 y 27 M. E. MICKLEBOROUGH LINGERIE FASTENING DEVICE Filed Oct. 1'7. 1925 3%; ATTORNEY.
ill)
Patented July 12, 1927.
UNITED STATES INIAY E. MICKLEBOROUGH, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
LINGERIE-FASTENING DEVICE.
Application filed October 17, 1925.
This invention relates to fastening devices for securely fastening the shoulder straps of lingerie garments and has for its particular objects the provision of a simple, cheap and effective device which is attractive in appear ance and comfortable to wear.
My invention is fully set forth in detail in the following description and drawing form ing a part of this specification and in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal elevation of my improved lingerie fastening device, isolated;
Fig. 2 is a plan view; and
Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing the same in position on the garments of a wearer.
Referring to the drawings and the construction shown therein, the reference numerals 1, 1 designate the body portions of twin clasp members, the same being of graceful design and free from sharpangles. The numerals 2, 2 designate the pin members that are secured in the body members by pivots or rivets 3, 3'. The terminal links 4, 4 of twin chain members a, a are secured to the ends of said pivots in any desired manner preferably by soldering or, if preferred, the terminal links may be provided with an integral eye that is of just sufficient size to snugly fit over the shank of the pivots or rivets 3, 3, but of insufficient size to escape over the heads or flattened ends 3" of such rivets. Centrally of the chain members, I provide a retainer band or link 5 which prevents undue spreading or separation of the two chain members when in use.
, Preferably the chain members are of just. sufficient length to conveniently span the shoulder straps or ribbons of the lingerie that they are intended to confine and the pin members and chain members are extremely small so as not to be objectionable or uncomfortable to the wearer or unsightly when in use.
In Fig. 3 I have illustrated the manner in which my improved fastening device may be utilized to confine or retain the shoulder straps or ribbons b of lingerie, as well as the manner of securing the fastening devices to the dress or outer garment as designated by the reference letter 6.
The clasp pins which I employ preferably Serial No. 62,968.
have sheaths 6 to guard or protect the points of the pins and as shown the rear end of said pins are preferably of a width adapted to substantially separate the said twin chain members a, a from each other.
Among the advantages of my improved fastening device may benoted the fact that the same are adapted to firmly hold the shoulder straps or ribbons of the undergarments against slipping off of the shoulders of the wearer because of the fact. that the pin members are firmly anchored or fastened to the dress or outer garment in the manner shown in Fig. 3.
The device is absolutely positive in so far as retaining the ribbons or laces comprising the lingerie or undergarment straps in their proper position is concerned, and unlike ordinary clasps heretofore "employed, is directly and securely fastened to the outer garment instead of being secured only to the lingerie straps.
This device in no way interferes with the free movements of the body or arms to various positions, such for, example as assumed in dancing, nor is any undue strain caused upon the straps themselves or upon the outer garments, hence there is no risk of tearing the straps from the lingerie nor of tearing the outer garments themselves as aresult of the employment of this device.
lVhile I have illustrated my preferred form of clasping devices for lingerie straps,
various modifications thereof may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention as embraced within the scope of the appended claims.
lVhile I prefer to employ non-corrosive metal as white gold, or solid gold, silver or platinum, various materials other than these may be employed, if desired.
The clasps may be connected byother fiexible members than chains, but chains are, because of their flexibility and durability, much preferred for this purpose.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to obtain by United States Letters Patent is:
1. Clasping devices for lingerie, comprising a plurality of spaced chain members and clasp members adapted to space said chain to the rear ends of said clasp pins and means members secured to the adjacent ends of said for preventing undue spreading of said 10 chain members. v chains with respect to each other when in 2. Clasping devices for lingerie, c0n1prisuse. a
ing a plurality of clasp pins, the same com- Signed at New York, in the county and prising a body, a sheath element on said State of New York, this 16th day of October body, a pin member movably mounted on 1925. 1
said b0dy"and a plurality of chains secured MAY E. MICKLEBOROUGH.
