UNITED STATES:
NORMAN MOGLASHAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HAIR-CUTTING DEVICE.
Application flld March 6, 1924. Serial No. 697,242.
This invention relates to improvements in hair cutting devices, with the object in view of providing a structure which is simple, effective, durable and cheap to manufacture.
Another object is to provide a device having a comb and a cutting blade associated therewith.
Another object is to provide a device having a comb and a cutting blade disposed longitudinally therein with its cutting edges exposed between and spaced from the ends of the teeth of the comb.
Another object is to provide a device having a comb provided with a longitudinal slot extending through the back into the teeth of the comb, a cutting blade located in the slot and a spring actuated means for removably securing the blade in the slot.
Another object is to provide certain improvements in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts, whereby the above named and other objects may be efiectively attained.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 represents a detail side elevation of my improved device, a portion of which is broken away to show other parts .more clearly.
Fig. 2 represents a vertical section taken in the plane of the line IIII of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow.
Fig. 3v represents a vertical section of a modified structure.
Fig. 1 represents a detail side elevation of a modified structure, portions of which are broken away.
Fig. 5 represents a vertical section taken in the plane of the line VV of Fig. 4, looking in the direction of the arrows, and
Fig. 6 represents a vertical section taken in the plane of the line Iv -IV of Fig. 4, looking in the direction of the arrows.
In Figs. 1 and 2 the back of the comb is denoted by 1 and the teeth by 2. A slot or recess 3 is disposed longitudinally in the comb so as to extend downwardly from the back 1 into the teeth 2 within a short dis tance from the ends of the teeth.
A cutting blade 4 is located in the slot 3 so that its cutting edge 5 will be exposed between the teeth 2. This blade 4 is pro- Vided with a reinforced portion 6 which is arranged to rest with its lower edge on the back 1 of the comb to position the blade in the slot 3.
The cutting blade is removably secured in the slot 3 by means of a U-shaped member 7 having depending spring actuated walls 8, 9, which embrace the sides of the comb and engage the reinforced portion 6 so as to hold the blade firmly in the slot 3 and against unintentional displacement.
In the form shown in Fig. 3, the back 10 of the comb is provided with a longitudinal recess 11 which merges into a longitudinal slot 12. The blade 13 is provided with a reinforced portion 14 which is arranged to be housed in the recess 11. In this form, the spring actuated member 15 embraces the back 10 of the comb and conceals the reinforced portion 14 in the recess 11.
In the form shown in Figs. 4 to 6 inclusive, the comb 16 is provided with a longitudinal slot 17 for the insertion of a cutting blade 18having an upper cutting edge 19 and a lower cutting edge 20. This blade is held in position in the slot by means of inwardly projecting yielding fingers 21 formed in the downwardly extended wall 22 of the spring actuated member 23, which fingers extend between the teeth of the comb into holes 24: in the blade. By this arrangement the upper cutting edge 19 in the slot 17 is covered and protected by the member 23, and the blade is held against displacement by the yielding fingers 21.
While I have shown in Figs. 1 and 2 a comb having a longitudinal slot extending into the teeth, I wish it to be understood that the comb may be slit longitudinally through the back and teeth and to the end of the comb, thereby allowing the blade to be movzd longitudinally in the comb when desire The structure described affords a means for holding the blade rigidly in the comb with the cutting edge exposed between and spaced from the ends of the teeth and is operated ply simply passing the comb through the air.
It'is obvious that various changes may be resorted to in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention; hence,I do not intend to be limited 4 to the details herein shown and described except as they may be included in the claims.
What I claim is:
1. A hair cutting device comprising a comb having a longitudinal slot at oneend thereof, a cutting blade loosely mounted in said slot, and a spring actuated means engaging said blade for removably securing it against movement in the slot.
2. A hair cutting device comprising a comb having a longitudinal slot therein, a cutting blade loosely mounted in said slot, and a removable means embracing the back of the comb for securing said blade in the slot, said means having a laterally movable device arranged to engage the blade for holding it against movement in the slot.
3. A hair cutting device comprising a comb having a longitudinal slot therein, a cutting blade loosely mounted in said slot, and a removable means embracing the back of the comb for securing said blade in the slot, said means having a laterally movable device arranged to engage the blade between the teeth of the comb for holding it against movement in the slot.
4. ;A hair cutting device comprising a comb havin a longitudinal slot therein, a cutting bla e loosely mounted in said slot, and a removable resilient means embracing the back of the comb for securing said blade in the slot, said means having a laterally movable yielding device arranged to engage the blade for securing-it against movement in the slot.
5. A hair cutting device comprising a comb having a longitudinal slot therein, a. cutting blade loosely mounted in said slot, and means for securing said blade in the slot, said means having a laterally movable yielding device arranged to engage the blade between the teeth of the comb for securing it against movement in the slot.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name this 21st day of February, 1924.
