PIPE AND CIGAR HOLDER FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELIMINATING THE NICOTINE Filed April is, 1926 ATTORNEY Patented a... 21,1927.
UNITED STATES.
PATENT OFFICE.
nueo Bunsen, or NEW YORK, N. Y:
PIPE AND CIGAR HOLDER FOR THE PURPOSE OFELIMINATING THE N'ICOTINE.
Application flledhpril 13, 1926. Serial No. 101,618.
This invention relates to improvements in nicotine eliminators and has for its object to provide a construction, which applied to cigar-holders and pipes would enhance the pleasure of smoking by eliminating the dangerousand nauseatmg substance called nicotine.
Another object of my invention is to pro-' vide a cigar or cigarette-holder, and pipe, which constructed along the lines of my invention should permit people with tubercular or pulmonary ailments to enjoy smoking without any stirring effect.
I accomplish this object by constructing a cigar-holder or pipe in such a-manner that the mouthpiece of same will be provided with a chamber adapted to receive an absorptive for retaining the nicotine, and which may be changedfrom time to time as occasion requires. Said absorptive may consist of plaincotton, or of a sterilized of disinfecting substance.
With the above and other objects in view,
this invention consists of the novel featuresof construction, combination and arrangements of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings formin parts of this specification,
and in which similar characters of reference indlcate corres onding parts 1n all views,
' and ilrwhich 1 re 1 is a transverse, longitudinal sectiona view of a pipe with m device applied; Figs. 2 and 3 are detailviews.
In applyinglmy principle to a pipe I construct a mout piece 25, as shown in Fig. 4, in such a mannerf that said mouthpiece through an applied pressure by the fingers may be inserted in the lower part of -a pipe 26, said lower part, or tube, is provided with a box-chamber, as atv 45, having a ta cred perforated end portion, said chamber eing detachablv mounted in such lower tube 26,
thereby facilitating the cleaning of same.
The mouthpiece when inserted: will project a short distance into said chamber, but not deeper than to leave plent of space for insertion into same of an absor 'nt substance as previously described.
To furtherarres't the influence of-the nicotine in a pipe-I construct the head of same to also embrace my device, which will be appreciated as I proceed with the descri tioii. v e head 29 comprises three sections 30,
31, 32. The upper one 30 has the usual shape of a plpe head and is integrally connected to the channels 27 and 28. Said-head is at its middle portion provided with an edge 33 adapted to support a circular disc 34, said disc being provided with apertures 35 to rmit the entrance of smoke to the channels. The disc has at one side a smallprojection 36 adapted to engage a correspondingly formed recess 37 in the. inner wall of the pipe, extending from the edge 33 to the mouth of saidv pipe, to guide said disc in its up and downward movement, when it is desired to clean the pipe-head. In order to perform such movement for the purpose of cleaning the disc has integrally attached to it at the center of its lower surface, art of an extensible tube 38 adapted to 'per orm a telescopical movement with another tube" member 39; when extended said tubes are held in locked position by engagement of an eyelet 40 on 39 with a button 41 on 38.
In the space between the disc 34 and the -member 31, I- place for the same reasons as before described an absorbent substance 44;
which may be inserted by unscrewing the gottom 31 which is threaded upon the mem-- .In order to permit of'the afore described V ten 32 when the latter is screwed in place.
To secure said pipe n an erectposition,
when not in use, and thereby revent any spillin of ashes and soot, I attac to the outside 0 .saidpipe-head a collapsible mem- It is obvious that changes may be made in the form of construction and arrangementof the several parts, as shown within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from thespirit of the invention,
and I do not therefore limit myself to' the. 10
construction and arrangement shown and described herein.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the nited States, is:
A pipe, comprising a mouthpiece adapted to be inserted 1n a lower member, said momher being formed with a seat for a detachiso and tube memeoable chamber having atube integrally connected thereto, said tube being tapered into a sharp end point, and having perforated walls to admit the smoke; the said lower member being provided with two tubes leading into a pipe, the head of said pipe comprising three sections, an upper larger one, having a circular shoulder located intermediate thereof, and adapted to support a disc, provided with apertures, an enlargement on said disc and a corresponding recess in the head of the pipe to permit of an up and downward sliding movement of said disc, an extensible telescopic tube, having its upper endpiece integrally attached to said disc and means for locking said tube members together when in extended position; a middle section screwed into said upper section and forming a chamber with said disc, said chamber being filledwith'an absorbent substance; and a bottom section screwed into said middle section and adapted to support a flange on said extensible tube when the latter is in collapsed position.
In witness whereof I have hereunto aifixed my signature.
HUGO BLIDSOE.
