Application led December 18, l1926. Serial No. 155,707.
This invention relates to devices for fastening to corner and end posts woven-wire fence fabric of the chain-link type; my obf ject being to `provide avsimple and inexpensive construction whereby the effective and reliable attachment of the vertical margin of the fabric to a post can be easily and rapidly l attained.
The invention, in its preferred form, comprises a post of rectangular' cross-section, adjacent to one of the forward corners of which post the marginal links of the fence fabric are positioned; a vertical restraining bar 'extending throughV the said links from the topv to the bottom of the fabric, and a series of hook-shaped locking members secured to the adjacent side of the post, in`
wardly of the fabric, and arranged to embrace tlie bar at spaced inter'valsand lock it in closerelation to the post, thereby ensuring an effective attachment of the fabric to and throughout the length of the post, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings- Figure l is an elevation of a portion of fence fabric and the adjacent post to which -the fabric is secured by `devices embodying my invention.
F ig. 2 is a transverse section,on an en- :so larged scale, as on the line 2 2 of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a sectional detail of the post',and a locking member, as on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, showing a portion of the restraining bar.
Referring to the drawings, 5 designates a tubular post of generally rectangular cross- Y section; 6 designates a portion of chain-link fence fabric having a vertical marginal portion located adjacent a front corner 7 of the post; 8 designates a vertical restraining bar of rectangular cross-section extending through the marginal links of the fabric, and 9 designates a series of strong metallic locking members located at intervals apart along the post and engaged with the bar 8 in a manner to maintain the latter parallel to the post, and the fabric under longitudinal tension.
Each of the locking members, in the form the other leg is formed with a forwardlyi projecting hook portion 12 adaptedv to engage the edge of the bar'remote from the post and maintain the bar, together with the associated marginal links, in proximity to the corner 7 of the post.
.The bolts-11 for the -locking members are preferabl midway between the front and back of t ie post, thus permitting such mem-` bers to be positioned at either the left or the right side of the post as its location in respect to the fence structure may require.
By bolting the locking members to the-side wall of the post, rearwardly of the fence fabric, and by positioning the margin of the fabric and the restraining bar at a forward corner of the post, as hereinbefore mentioned, thebar can be readily applied to and lengaged by the hooks of the series of locking members `after the latter have been mounted on the post, as follows: The bolts are loosened and the locking members are moved laterally from the post as indicated in dotted lines in F ig. 2.` The bar 8 is then positioned vertically and'at an angle between the loosened hooks and the adjacent rounded corner 7 of the post until the bar clears the latter, and then the bolts are-tightened so as to pull vthe locking members toward the post and move their hooks into forcible locking relation to the interposed'bar against the longitudinal tension of the fabric. This being done the post co-acts with the hooks toy maintain the interposed bar iii-locking position, which bar cannot ordinarily -be released without again loosening the bolts and since these bolts are located back of the fence they cannot be readily manipulated bv a person series of angular locking members for said bar, one leg of each member having a bolt hole therein and adapted to be secured to the fiat side of the post rearwardly of the fabric, and the other leg having av forwardly-projecting hook portion adapted to engage the edge of the bar remote from the said fori ward corner of the post, and releasable bolts for securing the locking members to the post.
2. In fence fastening devices7 the combination with chain-link fabric and a rectangular' Supporting post adjacent the marginal links of said fabric, of a restraining bar extending' through the said links, and a series of angular locking members for said bar7 one leg of each member being detachably secured to the Side of the post adjacent the 'fabric and the other leg having a forwardly-projecting hook which engages the edge of the bar reinote from the post.
