To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, WILLiAM F. Jones, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concrete Fences, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to fences constructed of concrete, preferably reinforced, and has for its objectto provide a concrete fence which will be strong, durabl and of relatively'low cost.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a concrete fence which is formed of separately molded sections that can be readily and easily assembled by a single person.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a fence which will be as strong as a monolithic structure and which pos sesses the special advantages of being quick- 1y erected, or taken down, without injury to the several parts constituting the fence.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and finally pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification wherein like characters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views:

Referring to the drawings, the reference character 1 designates suitable concrete fence posts. 2 indicates a plurality of longitudinal reinforcing rods molded in the posts. Each post 1 is provided near its upper end with a pair of suitably spaced strap iron supporting m mb rs 3 to form a socket 4 Serial No. 423,950.
on opposite sides of each post 1. Each post 1 is further provided near the ground line thereof with a pair of suitably spaced strap iron members 5 to form a socket 6 on opposite sides of each post 1. Each end of the strap members 3 and 5 is provided with aligned slotted openings 7.
8 indicates an upper concrete rail member which is reinforced by means of longitudinal rods 9. Each end of the rail member 8 is provided with an additional embedded reinforcing member in the form of a strap iron member 10 to add strength to each end of the rail member 8. Each end of the rail member 8 is further pro- Vided with a plurality of vertically disposed openings 11 through which bolts 12 pass for securing the ends of the rail member 8 in the sockets 4 formed by iron members 3. It will be observed that the slotted openings 7 in the strap iron members 3 and 5 will permit of contraction and eX- pansion to take place without injury to the ends of the rail 7.
A concrete sill member is employed which consists of a front board like section 13 and a right angular rail like sec tion 14 which is formed at the upper end of the board like section 13. The two sec- ' tions 13 and 14 are strengthened by means of the concrete filler rib= 15. The upper face of the board like section 13 of the sill member is provided with a plurality of suitably and equally spaced depressions, or seats 16, which seats are separated by means of the concrete walls 17. The sill member is provided with longitudinal reinforcing rods 18 which are embedded in the board like section 13 and with longitudinal reinforcing rods 19 which are embedded in rail like section 14. Vertical reinforcing rods 20 are also employed, which are embedded in the board like section 13, the walls 17 and terminate in the rail like section 13 of the sill member, as clearly shown in Fig. 4.
Each end of the board like section 13 of the sill member extends slightly beyond the end faces of the rail like member 1-1 of the sill member, as at 21, and are provided with the slotted openings 22. The extended ends 21 of the board like section 13 engage the front face of the posts, while the ends of the rail like section 14 are receivable in the sockets 6 f rmed e ween.

The lower ends of the concrete boards25 are seated in the seats 16 ofgthe sill member, which properly spaces the boards. The boards 25 are removably fixed to the upper rail members 3 and the rail like section 14 of the sillmember byv means of bolts 29 and 30, respectively, or anyother suitable fas-; tening means.
The board members 25 which are used at the posts, are preferably provided with slotted openings 3l, through which the bolts pass to permit of expansion and contraction of the fence, as ismanifest,
