Description

A. LEFKOWITZ 'PYJAMA PANTS- May 17, 1927. 1,628,891

ram-TENT an mirmrxowmz, or 'ros xfa. 1 y,
QPYJAM-A rants. 7
Application filed July 15, 1925 Serial No. 43,690. 7
My invention relates to fpyj ama jpants, my more particular 'purpose being to make "the garment .of such construction asto adapt it for aaiumber of different uses and to increase its serviceability as well as its appearance. i
Reference is made to the accompanying drawing forming a part ofniy specification, and, in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout each of the fig ures.
' Figure 1 is a fragmentary-front elevation showing my improved pyjama pants as they appear When worn ordinarily and as closed in the front.
. Figure 2 is a fragmentary front elevation showing the pants as they appear with the front open, the slit being concealed by the ,fiap.
The body member of the pants is shown at 3 and the legs at a and 5.
The body member is provided at its upper edge with a waistband 6, having the general form of a tubular hem, and extending through this waistband. is a belt 7. The belt may be made of any suitable material such as cloth or leather, and preferably has the form ofa flatand strong tape. The belt can be tied into a knot 8, or fastened in any equivalent manner well known in this art.
The body member 3 is provided with a pair of mating portions 9 and 10, which are movable relatively to each other, and may be drawn apart as indicated in Figure 2.
The waistband 6 extends along the top of these portions. The portions 9 and 10 can be drawn angularly apart as indicated in Figure 2. by merely sliding the adjacent portions of the waistband 6 along the belt7.
The portions 9 and 10 are provided with buttons 11 and 12, each spaced a little dis-. tance away from the adjacent outer or free edge of the portion upon which it is secured.
The body member 3 is further provided with a fiap 13 secured firmly to it, and provided with button holes 1% and 15 which match the buttons 11 and 12.
The flap may be raised into the position indicated in Figure 1 and held in that position by the buttons. be lowered, in which event it simply hangs lVhenever the flap is raised into the position indicated in Figure l and buttoned as shown in that figure, the portions9 and 10 can be moved apart, within limits permitted Figure 1.
Again, the flap may by therbuttons 11 and :12, which holdth'ese parts relatively to the fla p 13, Q i I Thatvi's to say, when the flap is buttoned up as, indicated in Figure-1, the operator can shift the; 1151113595 and: 1-0 slightly ,to promote the cornfortji-of the wearer, but; can'='- 1'1ot displace these-flaps to any gieatfextent l' e'cause they are held'from undue displacement by the buttons 11 and 12. r
When, however, the flap is unbuttoned and lowered, the portions 9 and 10 of the garment may be moved apart freely; the
shirring of the waistband 6 readily permitting this movement, and the buttonsll and 12, being free to move further apart because no longer confined by the flap. A pair of pyjama pants made in accord ance with my invention may be worn around the house with comparative freedom if brought into the condition indicated in la-rly during hot weather, the wearer of the pants may without impropriety have considerable freedom of movement in walking around the house and in this way my garment promotes comfort and convenience, without any oflsetting drawbacks. As may Thus at all times and particube readily understood from the foregoing description, the body member of the pants 7 1s provided at its front with a slit, and at its top edge with a shirred waistband, the latter being open in front and provided with end portions which extend substantially to the slit, these end portions being slidable upon the belt 7 and thus movable toward and from each other as guided by the belt,
in order to shift the adjacent portion of the body member so as to close and open the slit. It will also be noted that the flap 13 is wide enough to cover the slit whether open or closed, and is free to swing into different normal positions relatively to'sa-id body member, in order to cover and uncover the v slit.
The fastenings whereby the flap is held in position to cover and thus conceal the slit are located far enough apart to enable the flap to extend entirely across the slitwhether open or closed. In other words the buttons 11, 12, with their respective button holes are spaced apart by practically the full width of the flap, this width being adequate to enable the, flap to conceal the slit, even when opened to its maximum limit. 7
Thus it is practicable for the wearer to either openor close the slit, as his comfort may require, without disturbing the flap from its position indicated in Figures 1 and 2.
I do not limit myself to the precise construction shown, as variations may be made therein without departing from my invention, the scope of which is commensurate with my claim. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patentis as follows: a
In pyjama pants, a body member provided at its front with a slit, and at its top edge with a shirred waistband open in front and with its end portions extending substantially to the slit, the end portions of the waistband being movable toward and from each other in order to shift the adjacent portions of said body member and thus to close and open said slit, said adjacent portions of said body member being free and adapted to meet together so asto completely close said slit throughout its entire length, a flap conncted with said body member and wide enough to cover said'slit whether open or closed, said flap being free to! swing into different normal positions relatively to said body member in order to cover and uncover said slit, and means for securing said flap in position to cover said slit and thereby conceal the same.
AMELIA LEFKOWITZ.
