SULPHURIC-ACID CHAMBER.

This invention relates to sulphuric acid chambers, and to means for tying them to supporting framework.
According to this invention links are employed to form the connections between a sulphuric acid chamber and its supporting framework, while preferably the framework carries bolts adjustable in length to which the links are pivoted.
This construction has for its object to prevent the local stresses which are set up when the connections between the chamber and its framework are composed of lead lugs, one end of which is attached rigidly to the supporting framework and the other end is burnt to the chamber wall.
Particularly when the invention is applied to externally water cooled chambers of the Mills Packard type, for example, those described .in U. S. Patent No. 1,112,546, the links are attached to the walls of the chamber through vertical lugs secured to the said walls, whereby the whole surface of the chamber can be cooled by water without employing collecting gutters which have hitherto been necessary.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, with reference to a sulphuric acid chamber, so shaped externally that it can be externally water-cooled and in which Figure 1 is a sectional elevation and Figure 2 a sectional plan,
Referring to the drawing, 1 is a sulphuric acid chamber of conical shape, 2 is a vertical lug running substantially from top to bottom of the chamber and burnt thereto; 3 is a framework; 4 is one of a series of brackets secured thereto; 5 are links provided at distances apart and loosely pivoted at one end to lug 2 with the interposition of iron bars 6, and similarly pivoted at the other end to an adjustable eye bolt 7 carried by the brackets 1 with or without the intermediary of rubber washers or metal springs 8.
Preferably, as illustrated, the hole in bracket 4 through which bolt 7 passes, allows for a certain amount of play.
l/Vhat I claim is 1. In means adapted to permit the expansion or contraction in any direction of a sulphuricv acid chamber, the combination with a supporting framework for said chamber, of a pivot mounted on said framework, a pivot on said chamber, a link connected to said pivots, and means for adjusting the pivot on said framework.
2. In means adapted to permit the expansion or contraction in any direction of a sulphuric acid chamber, the combination with a supporting framework for said chamber, of a pivot mounted on said framework, a lead lug secured to the chamber, a pivot carried by said lug, a link connected to said pivots, and means for adjusting the pivot on said framework.
3. In means adapted to permit the expansion or contraction in any direction of a sulphuric acid chamber, the combination with a supporting framework for said chamber, of a bracket secured to the framework, an eyebolt carried by said bracket, means for adjusting said eyebolt, a pivot carried by said eyebolt, a pivot on said chamber, and a link connected to said pivots.

In means adapted to permit the expansion or contraction in any direction of a sulphuric acid chamber, the combination with a supporting framework for said chamber, of a bracket secured to said framework, an eyebolt carried by said bracket, means for adjusting said eyebolt, a pivot carried by said eyebolt, a lead lug secured to the chamber, a pivot carriedby said lug, and a link connected to said pivots.
5. In means adapted to permit the expansion or contraction in any direction of a sulphuric. acid chamber, the combination with a supporting framework for said chamber, of a pivot mounted on said framework, resilient means interposedbetween said pivot and said framework, a pivot on said chamber, a link connected to said pivots, and means for adjusting the pivot on said framework.

In means adapted to permit the expansion'or contraction in any direction of a sulphuric acid chamber, the combination with a supporting framework for said chamber, of a pivot mounted on said framework, resilient means interposed between said pivot and said framework, a lead lug secured to the chamber, a pivot carried by said lug, a

8. In means adapted to permit the expansion or contraction inany direction of a sulphuric acid chamber, the combination with a supporting framework for said chamber, of a bracket secured to said framework, an eyebolt carried by said bracket, resilient means interposed between said eyebolt and said bracket, means for adjusting said eyebolt, a pivot carried by said eyebolt, a lead lug secured to the chamber, a pivot carried by said lug, and a link connected to said pivots.
9. In means adapted to permit the expansion or contraction in any direction of a sulphuric acid chamber of a shape to be externally water cooled, the combination with a supporting framework for said chamber, ofa pivot mounted'on said framework, a vertically arranged lead lug secured to the chamber, a pivot carried by said lug, a link connected to said pivots, and means for adjusting the pivot on said framework.
10. In means adapted to permit the expansion or contraction in any direction of a sulphuric acid chamber of a shape to be externally water cooled, the combination with a supporting framework for said chamber, of a bracket secured to said framework, an eye bolt carried by said bracket, means for adjusting said eyebolt, a pivot carried by said eyebolt, a vertically arranged lead lug secured to the chamber, a pivot carried by said lug, and a link connected to said pivots.
11. In means adapted to permit the expansion or contraction in any direction of a sulphuric acid chamber of a shape to be externally water cooled, the combination with a supporting framework for said chamber, of a pivot mounted on said framework, resilient means interposed between said pivot and said framework, a vertically arranged lead lug secured to the chamber, a pivot carried by said lug, a link connected to said pivots, and means for adjusting the pivot on said framework.
12. In means adapted to permit the expansion or contraction in any direction of a sulphuric acid chamber of a shape to be externally water cooled, the combination with a supporting framework for said chamber,of a bracket secured to said framework, an eye-' bolt carried by said bracket, resilient means interposed between said eyebolt and said bracket, means for adjusting said eyebolt, a pivot carried by said eyebolt, a Vertically arranged lead lug secured to the chamber, a pivot carried by said lug, and a link connected-to said pivots.
