FOLDING POWDER PUFF.
' Application illed March 17, 1926, Serial No. 95,360, and in France August 25, 1925.
My present invention relates to a powder 'puffl ada ted for the use of face powder or like pro ucts; and' I thus obtain a folding or. disappearing powder puil' which occupies-a very small space and may bereadily transported, for instance in a ladys hand bag together with the usual color sticks, sprayers or the like, serving for toilet purposes. In kmy said device'I combine the powder puff and the powder box which is used with the same, the 'face powder being placed within the device supportingthe powder puff,
The following description and appended drawings show b way of example various embodiments of t e said invention.
Fig.' 1 is a vertical section of the powder puff according to the invention, in the ex-y tended position.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section in the line A-B of Fig. 1.
Figs. 4 and 5 are 'respective elevational views of the said powder puff inclosed in its casing and inthe operative position.
Figs. 6 and-7 show modiications of my said device. 4
In the figures, 1 is the support or holder for the powder pu which has the form of a hollow cylinder, whereof the upper end 2 carries a central sleeve 3 inte al therewith,
and the lower end consists o a cylindricalbox 44 inserted into the cylinder 1 and comprising an external ilange 5. Upon the cyl- 3.5 inder 1 is slidable asleeve 6 having in the interior the slots 7 in which are en aged the studs 8-mounted u n the externa vpart of the end 2 of the cy inder 1. The reciprocatin motion of the sleeve 6 is limited at one 40 si e by the ed e 5 ofthe box 4 and at the other side by t e tappets 9 mounted on the interior ofthe sleeve 6 at its lower art which co-operate with studs 8 mounte on the cylinder 1. .i
-To the upper art of thel'end 2 of the cylinder 1 is secured a toothed circular member 10 provided with a centralaperture correspondipg to the sleeve 3; between the teeth..
are d 11 which are wound at one nd upon a suitable support 12 and are secured 'at the other end to the edge of the powder puff 13.l Thesaid wder pui 1- is" securedvto 'the' vsuplzbort 11 y suitable ma estera 14- inserted -Wallin the sa `laid gime 'ammi-.einsam powder puff in central part of the springs 11, so that according to the motion. of the sleeve the sprin 11 will be bent, and the powder puff 13w1ll` be brought within the sleeve 6. When the said sleeve is at the end of its upward stroke, i
i. e. when the'tappets 9 make contact withthe studs 8, the powder puff will be completely stowed within the sleeve 6, which may now, be provided with a cover 15, as shown in Fig. 4.
The box 4 and the cylinder 1 may contain the powder falling from the puf 13 through the sleeve 3 and the socket 14, when thesald puff is extended for use.
v'I his will afford a powderv puff device which occupies a limited space and can -be readily handled. The arrangement herein represented is shown solely by way of example, and I may vary the means for securing the powder puff to the cylinder Y1,
vand also the method of sliding the sleeve 6 pu-Y 13 is mounted at'the top of a small cy'- lindrical case 1 in wli''r'ehthe powder is placed. The bottom of saidcase consists of a cover 4 whereby the powder can-be renewed.
The said small cylindrical case is slidable by easy friction within cylinder 17 which is slotted at the'top and comprises ahe'lical groove 18. Thesald cy1inderisrotated, butA rt for the powder pu is thel same as v e shown in Figs. 1 to 5. The powder without removal, inan external cylinder 16 which latter andthe cylinder 17 are united at the bottom by means aordingfthe rotation of the member `17 relatively tothe member 1.6.l
'The recipient 1 is vertically guided, and it comprises a stud en aging in a slot 18, so that when the cylin er 17 is turned re1- atively to the element 16 in either direction, the recipient holding the powder puff can be raised or lowered. The tube 16 is provided with a suitable cover, not shown.
Claim's- A 1. A folding powder puff comprising in combination, a puff provided with spring members for sustaining the puf in its open position, a powder container, means for securing said spring members to said container, and a sleeve slidable on said con- 15 tainer for contracting the spring members to fold said pui', said sleeve being adapted to enclose said puff in its folded position.
2. A folding powder puff as claimed in claim 1, said container being provided with a centrally disposed tubular member, said tubular member being open at each end, one end of said tubular member terminating adjacent the securing' means for said springs, the other end terminatingwithin the powder container, whereby powder is conveyed from said container to said pui.
In testimony whereof 1 aiix my signature.
ALEXANDRE WILLK.
