IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-TIE HOLDERS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MERRIOK ASBERRY HEAD, of Carthage, Hancock county, Illinois, have invented a Holder for Badge or Emblem and Neck-Tie, of which the following is a specification:

This invention consists in an improved holder or apparatus for holding badges and emblems, together with neck-ties. It is made substantially as herein set forth, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure I is a central cross-section of apparatus. Fig. II is a front view of same.

This apparatus is designed to be attached to the collar and button in a way somewhat like kinds of necletics in ordinary use. The part A is hinged at the top to the body part E. It is made of spring-wire, coiled ateach or a portion of its angles, so as to spring easily. Its lower portion bends upward in the center, forming a sort of yoke, which rests over the collar-button F, as a holder, with spring pressure to hold the apparatus in place. The body-part E is made of thin sheet metal, and spreads to the two sides, and in such form as to fit under the parts of the collar which turn down. This forms, with part A, the means for attaching and holding the apparatus firmly in place. The plate H is afiixed to the front of plate E, and is also formed of thin sheet metal. This has a plate, I, hinged to it at the bottom, so as to open and close freely. It reaches up and is attached to the top of plate H by a spring-catch; and it has a space between the two plates H I, in which the badge and tie are held. The plate I has an opening in its front face, into which a badge, for campaign or other purposes, is inserted to show outward. This opening is made by having two outs, Vone toward each sideand reaching from near the top to near the bottom, with the center either removed or bent back, so the badge, in suitable form, can be set in in front of it and behind the other parts. The sides and exposed parts of plate I are finished partly by engraving or embossing thereon suitable designs, and partly by painting, to give suitable color, surface, and ornament for tasty finish, &c.

The invention is not confined strictly to the two slits V in clasp I as the means of attaching the ornament or badge to the holder, as it can be readily varied.

A portion of the tie is represented by part L. This is formed of paper, cloth, or metal, or other material, suitably formed, folded, colored, and ornamented. This is inserted between the plates, back of the badge or ornament, and projects at the sides; and it is replaced, when desired, by fresh parts, as collars are.

I am aware that neck-tie shields have been made with hinged cross-pieces, and do not claim this broadly; but

hat I claim is 1. The combined neck-tie holder and badgeholder, consisting of the shield E and the hinged clasp I, having the slots V or equivalent fastening device, as set forth.

2. In combination with a neck-tie, a badgeholder, consisting of the clasp I, when provided with slots V or equivalent devices for holding the badge, as set forth.
