. vide a ring wherein a book structure is presented having a series of leaves capable ofl receiving pictures, engraving or other matter.
A further object, more specifically, is to provide a ring with a notch in a portion thereof normally iilled with a book formation which snugly fits the notch or opening and restores the ring to its normal appearance when the book structure is closed.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a ring disclosing an embodiment of the invention.v
Figure 2 is an elevation of the ring shown in Figure 1, illustrating the opposite sidel to that shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view through Figure 2, approximately on line 3-3.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 but showing the book structure in an open position.
Figure 5 is a view taken at right angles tothe view shown in Figure 4, all of the leaves except the top being lowered for illustrating how a picture may be held in place.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the lid or cover and leaves associated therewith embodying certain features of the invention, the same being shown spaced apart for betr ter illustrating the detail construction.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates an ordinary ring body which is provided with a notch or cutaway portion 2. Arranged in this notch or cut-away portion 2 is a .book structure 3 which restores the material removed when notch 2 was formed. In Figure 1, the outline of the book 3 and the pintle end appear rather pronounced, but in an actual construct-ion, this end is polished in such a manner that it will not be readily seen so that the surface is substantially smooth. A finger opening or depression 4 is provided in the ring lso that an instrument or a finger nail may be inserted and the book 3 opened as desired, for instance to the position shown in Figure 4.
In the drawing, the outer surface of the book 3 has been shown with a Masonic emblem, but other ornamental members may be arranged thereon if desired, such as precious stones or insignias, as preferred. For instance, the emblem of a fraternal order might be soldered or otherwise secured to the outer surface of the book 3 and certain in formation concerning the order provided on the various leaves 5, 6 and 7 The book 3 is formed with a top plate 8 which acts as a top leaf and is positioned to receive a picture or other article 9 if desired. ing flange 10 is preferably formed integral with the plate 8 so as to provide a wa'll near the notch 4. A frame 11 is soldered or otherwise secured to the plate 8 on the inner 'l surface whereby a memento, picture or other article 9 may be held in place. The plate 8 is also provided with a rear flange 12 turned over so as to present kunckles 13 for receiving the pintle 14. This pintle also extends through the knuckles formed on the various plates 5, 6 and 7 Preferably the three plates, namely, plates 5, 6 and 7, are hing-V edly connected with the pintle 14, though a less number or even a greater number might be connected'therewith without departing from the spiritk of the invention. As shown "in the drawing, knuckles are formed integral with the various plates or leaves 5, 6 and 7,
though if desired, these knuckles could be made separate and soldered or otherwise sesecured to the plates.
The hinge structure shown in Figure 2 is rather pronounced in the drawing for the purpose of illustration, but in actual manufacture of the device, theseparts are made as small as possible and are fitted together very 4neatly so that when polished, they will not be ordinarily observable. The ring may be used for many purposes, as for instance, to keep a family record, when two people are married and when children are born, or may be used by fraternal orders. When used by fraternal orders, preferably the emblem of the order is arranged on the outer surface oft plate 8 and the various leaves 5, 6 and 7 engraved with the date when the party enteed the order and other dates of prominent happenings. frame, similar to frame 11, can be secured to any of the leaves 5, 6 and 7, and that pictures or other articles can beheld in place on these leaves. The length of plate 8 and cor A depend- It will also be evident that a ilanges 10 and 12 is such that they snugly tit or press against the other parts of the ring so that the book 3 is held normally closed Without the use of any special fastening means, though if desired, some form of catch could be used Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
