UNlTED STATES ANTON SCH-UH, OF VIENNA, AUSTRIA.
SEALING MEANS.
Application filed February 6, 1925, Serial No. 7,353, and. in Austria March 1, 1924.
My invention relates to sealing means of the character employing a fiat disk of a soft metal, for example lead, in combination with a hard but compressible'shell partly surrounding the lead disk and provided wlth embossed lettering, and a strip or wire element.
The invention consists of means provided in the soft metal disk for passing and securing the strip and means on the surrounding shell for securing said shell on the lead disk, thereby forming a safety lock for the shell and a protecting device for the safety lock of the lead seal or disk.
In the drawing, V
Fig. 1 is a cross section of my improved sealing means showing the lead .seal with the outer hard plate shell and the strip extend-- ing through the openings of the lead disk before being pressed by sealing tongs.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same after it has been pressed.
Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of the shell.
Fig. 4 is a plan of the completely closed seal.
Fig. 5 is a similar view of the seal pro vided with a modified form of the lead disk and a strip of doubled wire, one end of which is embedded in the lead disk.
In the drawings like letters refer to like parts in all figures. The fiat seal disk a is of a soft metal, preferably lead, and has a central recess and two openings 6 leading thereto for the reception of the ends of the strip 0. (Z is the shell, of a hard plate metal, surrounding the lead seal a on two sides and its circumferential portion projecting from the third side as at e. The front side of the shell is in practice provided with embossed lettering, designating a firm, name or the like. The front or bottom of the shell 61 may also be provided with prongs f stamped out from the plate and bent inwardly, which can be pressed into the soft seal a manually when the lead seal with the strip 0 thereon is placed in the shell.
The seal is then closed by pressing it be tween the jaws of hand actuated seal tongs, whereby the strip is locked by the lead, the prongs f are bent down and fixed in the so pressed lead, the projecting part of the'rim c is rolled in and pressed into the surface of the lead seal and thereby firmly gripped into the lead and finally symbols, letters, numbers or marks are pressed into the upper surface of the lead seal, as may be desired.
In the sealing device illustrated in Fig. 5 a Wire is employed, one end of which is embedded in the lead seal and the other passes through an opening in the lead. Otherwise, this device is used and closed as in the case of the seal hereinbefore described.
Having now described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In sealing means, the combination of a flat disc of a soft metal forming a complete and self contained seal, with a shell of a hard but compressible plate and means provided on the shell for grappling parts of the shell into the disc of soft metal, when the seal is closed.
2. In sealing means, the combination of a flat disc of a soft metal forming a complete and a self contained seal, with a shell of a hard but compressible plate and provided with a margin projection beyond said soft metal disc and arranged to be forced into said soft metal disc when the seal is closed.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ANTON SOHUH.
